  • Its compounded for me by the fact that everything I had or was interested in was 20 years old when I was young, plus I lived in the same neighborhood of courage the cowardly dog. So now, I feel like I'm about 80 and everything truly is over because tech sucks and all my favorite musicians are dead 😆

  • I'd say youre very normal in that regard. All freshmen are awkward and probably scared to respond or talk to new people.

Today's phone addicted world is a lot different than when I went, but I'd still say having conversations, smiling, are all good easy things still. You can get a mentor in college and often they will assign one to you for freshmen. Will you have a roommate? I myself never liked any of my roommates and the best times were when they dropped out and I had my own room. I had a campus job which was a lot of fun and pretty relaxed. Maybe look for that if you want some easy side money and to meet folks.

The majority of people tend to think they need to get drunk to have a good time so drinking will be a very popular thing, if youre in the US. Wasnt my thing so I never went to parties.

I don't do any sports but football games and crap are a good way to meet people. I'm not someone who likes those types of people generally so I didnt do that. But Frisbee golf is fun sometimes.

I totally get the not relating part. My hobbies tend to be completely out of the norm even though to me seem like something everyone does (cars, music, videogames, but specific eras). Anyway, youll find a friend group thats into the stuff you are. Usually I would try to see if I vibe with someone by asking what music they liked or what car they drive. Sometimes that gets you a weird look or you get the most average "I like all music. Ummm I think its a Toyota" which usually for me was a sign that they probably won't vibe with my interests. Or just ask what they do for fun. Or the age old "what's your major".

Also remember, most kids are assholes. Their brains havent developed and they may have had bad parenting plus now toxic news and social media addictions. So its probably not you if you get weird reactions from them.

  • I love motorcycles but havent got one yet!

  • Thats amazing.

  • Issue with ADHD tho is if its not directly visible I will not know I have it and won't ever take it out to use it or I may even buy another one forgetting I had it.

Reason I leave books and fun shit around. Its way too damn easy to grab a phone and doom scroll when theres nothing else around. I feel like folks used to have books and knicknacks out to do things with to satisfy their brain, now its all phone addiction.

  • I don't need to instantly be a pro at everything I do.

I don't need to do every single thing the hardest way possible starting from the ground up.

I won't learn these because my degree of ethics and authenticity is wayy too high.

  • We should but ive been tracking people I know who are addicted to it and I saw a mental decline instantly. It doesn't take a lot of experimenting to show it makes you an idiot, not using your brain will do that.

I'll be the old man yelling at cloud who refuses to use it while the rest of the world straps on bezos vision for 79.95 a month to go to work typing prompts.

  • Bro your brother needs to be in a high security prison for real.

  • And that 2600 is still smarter than mechahitler.

  • The question I have to ask is, computers have been doing math since the very beginning, and now we are wasting a shit ton of resources (and giving every shred of info to billionaires so they can hold it hostage) to do the same math even worse when that is what the computer was designed for. Has everyone forgotten the purpose of the computer or something? I feel like I'm taking Crazy pills.

Almost everything llm supercomputers do has already been done. It is the least innovative thing. If you take ANYTHING and shove a trillion dollar supercomputer at it, of course its going to be surface level impressive to simpletons. I just do not understand any of the hype. Its not exciting or new. Hell, vr was more interesting than this and that had already been done decades before the oculus and index popularized it. I'm real sick of these bandwagoners pretending they know tech when all they know is corporate overlord advertising.

Not ranting at you ruan but just screaming into the void to be ignored by the mass populace, as per usual.

  • Every single damn time someone tries to do this, its the same result. its so annoying.

The moment someone starts a sentence with "why dont you just" JUDO CHOP is usually the best answer.

  • Oh it does. But it also steals all information and then sells it back to you on top of burning the earth!

  • Get tests from your water company. Mine sends me yearly tests they do of the water (yes, how truthful are they, whos to know, but I think its a legal requirement to tell you how much aresenic content there is). Ours tests great and our water tatstes great right out of the tap. I would like a softener though for some stuff.

  • Slightly less than your mom

  • Yep, normies dont have computers, can confirm IRL. Phonebrains.

    Its crazy to us nerds.

  • Thats why i struggle so much learning any type of programming. What's the point. Any software I'd want is super complex, and there's a billion simple tiny ones that have already been made.

  • In a way this scares me because we will see more bad actors and government agents infiltrating Foss, either to cripple it or instill distrust.

In the end though, desktops are dead. Its only phones and tablets that matter. An increasing amount of folks IRL dont have a desktop or laptop because a phone does it all. The powers know this, hence why your phone is locked down and tracked. 24/7. Unless you have graphene.

  • Exactly.
