  • While I tend to think Taylor Swift could best serve the world by simply sticking to flying her private jet down to the local 7-11 to get a carton of milk and a pint of ice cream while keeping her mouth shut, she has the right to say she will vote for Harris. And I fully support her right to make that choice and statement.

    But I also firmly believe that celebrities should not use their notoriety or fame to push agendas. There are far too many easily swayed people out there who will follow the lead of famous people who espouse an idea that is dumber than cow shit simply because hey are famous - See Andrew Tate or a number of disgraced BBC reporters.

  • The miss use of the term "billet". As in "Made from Billet Aluminum to military specs" I have literally sourced metals from all over the world. Ain't no one ever tried to sell me "billet" anything.

    A billet is an old term that was used when iron and steels were smelted and then poured in to either kind of a bread loaf mold or a round shape called a bloom. It would then be reheated at a later time and then formed into the final shape. No one would use "billet" or a "bloom" to make anything from it. It would have been "sponge" like and to soft to be useful for anything.

    Fecking sales trying to market to ignorant people with a term that doesn't mean what anyone thinks it means.

  • For PLA and PETG, I like MatterHacker, though I have been buying some Voxel PLA lately and that's been pretty good stuff too. Voxel does run sales that get the price down to $15/$16US a kilo.

    For ABS/ASA, I'm still using a the same kilo of Zyltech ABS I bought 5 or 6 years ago. And I still haven't used 200g yet. I did dig it out this weekend to print a couple dozen custom cable clips for my boat with it though.

  • Provenance. Track the origin.

    Easy to say, often difficult to do.

    There can be 2 major difficulties with tracking to origin.

    1. Time. It can take a good amount of time to find the true origin of something. And you don't have the time to trace back to the true origin of everything you see and hear. So you will tend to choose the "source" you most agree with introducing bias to your "origin".
    2. And the question of "Is the 'origin' I found the real source?" This is sometimes referred to Facts by Common Knowledge or the Wikipedia effect. And as AI gets better and better, original source material is going to become harder to access and harder to verify unless you can lay your hands on a real piece of paper that says it's so.

    So it appears at this point in time, there is no simple solution like "provenance" and " find the origin".
