  • Because then you have to make pointless small talk and pleasantries, and I need to save all of those for the boring people I don't want to talk to at work.

  • Daughters Christmas present was a toy laptop because we didn't want her just watching YouTube but at least she can learn typing and basic skills...

Nope, it's an ABCDE keyboard instead of QWERTY... No transferable skills at all. Should have just bought a $50 last generation netbook and installed Linux on it.

    (Arch BTW)

  • Electric cars don't need a transmission at all

  • The time between the last living stegosaurus and the last living tyrannosaurus is greater that the time between the last tyrannosaurus and today.

  • Trump is America's self-inflicted gunshot wound

  • Oh... nautical miles.

  • That's how you can tell if you're accelerating

  • I don't explicitly disagree with any of the points, but I think that the mini deadlines at least lead to a successful outcome rather than a failed project.

The example is steering a ship or driving a car - you need to look at the map or the road at regular intervals (even if they are "false deadlines") to make sure you're on track.

I'm on the highway, there's no corner coming up for ages so I don't need to look at the road for a few minutes -- dead person

Scrum/Agile gets a lot of negative press these days, but I haven't seen a practical alternative yet. Enlighten me if you know of the perfect project management system 🙂‍↕️ - I'd genuinely like to figure something out.

  • Yeah, this isn't supposed to be a silver bullet, it's more about democratizing the internet more.

    I think that

    • Low barrier to entry
    • Focus on users owning their own content
    • Privacy is more important than advanced functionality

I.e. if you want to start a blog, it should be easy own it and host it yourself rather than surrending your content to Twitter and Facebook. Make it accessible to others who also want to surf the web without being targeted and tracked.

  • I have a vision of starting a

    <noscript>

    community.

Basically building a set of tools to help people host content with just plain HTML and CSS, using static personal hosting and organically sharing links like the pioneer days of the web.

I think that the shift to client-side scripting, like tracking pixels, algorithmic content, infinite scrolling, targeted advertising, etc is how we ended up with the monoculture we see today.

Just disable JavaScript on your browser and 99% of those things go sway and we can support people building personal homepages again.
