  • Falling in love is something that you recognise by contrast. You are excited to just spend time with that someone in a way that transcends your feelings towards others. I remember leaving work and just being so happy that I was on my way home to see my wife and family.

  • Yep, that checks out. I meant it in a positive way but the interactions so far feel very nostalgic. We used to say LMGTFY.

  • You and I must have different wives

  • He's just really fucking stupid.

  • Diamond Hands!

  • You should read the actual link. It's more like a perpetual torture chamber for agents.

  • I agree with many of these, but not the "if statement" one.

Sure, if it's just one place where an object's behavior differs slightly it makes sense but as soon as the logic has to be applied in a few different methods what you've done is spread out the implementation across the codebase.

    Then you get methods like def CheckUserRole(is_test_mode, is_oauth, is_local, impersonate_mode, override_admin = false)

Much of the tech debt we deal with comes from ignorance or failure to understand the lessons of the past 50 years of software engineering. Classes and Types were invented to keep code manageable and maintainable. When it's just one dev working locally, fine - store everything in one big dict, you're only hurting yourself. But complex software projects need to be maintained by teams. All that "boilerplate" you're complaining about is part of the communication that makes it easier for others to understand what you've written.

  • "Hmm, I'm not sure honey - why do you think metal stick to magnets? Maybe there are some books at the library we can read to find out more..."

  • You're on to something: the 2% inflation target is just an arbitrary value.

It means your salary is constantly going down for doing the same work - you have to stay on the treadmill just to stay in place.

But if you're an asset holder then the prices of your holdings appreciate indefinitely, and governments get the power to levy this constant invisible tax on the workers.

Mark Blyth is an expert on the topic: https://youtu.be/GXBSNCysxiA

  • The gear on the right is fairly typical of how it looks coming out of the printer. You can clean up the frosted glass effect with a bit of polishing, but it isn't ever as clear as the part in the middle.

However, everything I've used starts to turn yellow very quickly. Maybe there's new stuff, but I've tried various lacquers and clear varnish but it all turns yellow in a few days.

  • I guess they all orbit around the solar system's center of mass (negligibly affected by the universal CoM), but that CoM probably moves around as the planets themselves move.

Relative to what, you might ask? That depends who you're asking 😉
