  • Yah, that's the wrong approach. 'Meat alternatives' are generally ass. Just eat whatever you usually eat that doesn't need to have meat in it. Black bean tacos, donuts, and cheese pizzas are vegetarian, ya know. Although you will of course have to eat a salad once in a while (horror) to not get scurvy.

    Endless Sky is a 2D sandbox space sim. It's a spiritual sequel to the old Escape Velocity: Nova, and has very active development.

    Feudal Tactics is an extremely simple strategy game that can nonetheless be quite hard.

    Battle For Wesnoth is a whole-ass fantasy campaign turn-based strategy game that has been ported to mobile. Think Warcraft but turn-based.

    Arx Libertatis is a port of Arx Fatalis, a first-person RPG. This one is still on my list to try out, but it looks interesting.

  • Gonna post the same thing here as I did in another post about this:

    I once accidentally scheduled a vacation to Chicago during Mexican Independence Day, which apparently is a huge deal in Chicago. When I got there, the entire downtown area was completely shut down as Mexicans had been roaring up and down every street in trucks for the last two days. The Chicago PD had blockaded every exit off the highway within two miles of downtown to try and stop it. It didn't- it just limited them to doing it on the highway breakdown lanes and the actual fucking grass medians.

    The moral of the story? If the above is what the Mexican population of Chicago does for fun, I'd dread to see what they do in the face of an actual threat.

  • Processing and transport is actually a relatively tiny portion of emissions. Take a look at the graphic - on most of them you can't even see the bit representing transport. Eliminating any and all meat production is way more impactful than any finessing you can do with crops.

    To be clear, industrial agriculture can and should be done in a more sustainable manner. Crop rotation, cover crops, 'striping' fields with wild space, field rotation, etc. There's gains to be made there, they're just quite small compared to literally any improvements in animal ag.

  • Well done. Just cutting out beef is one of the most impactful things you can do WRT your diet. I've often thought we need to coin a new term for doing so. There's 'reducetarian' but it doesn't really have a strong usage.

  • Honestly, if we just stopped meat production that would pretty much be it for emission reductions from diet. Plant-based stuff is so efficient by comparison it hardly even matters.
