  • Yeah it's why the US gov took it over. So they could push their own propaganda.

  • Facebook pays them indirectly all the time by pushing their accounts. Then they use that platform to push products and collect compensation accordingly.

  • I mean just look at what he's doing with it now. What he's always done with it. He wants literal monuments built to himself. He wants his name on absolutely everything. He wants a legacy.

  • Lol remember when Hillary's emails was this years-long scandal? And we just rolled over Signalgate in a couple weeks.

  • All you can do is keep asking.

  • I have tried many time, often in vain, but maybe 10% of the time it does work.

  • “Get them off Facebook” isn’t an option. They’re old, and it’s how they connect with their friends and get fulfilment.

This is exactly the kind of mentality that Meta preys upon. Create a new community. Invite them. Invite your family. Invite their friends. There is no other option. As long as we continue to capitulate to them, they will continue to exploit their power to harm their users.

  • Approximately half the population of Earth is on it on a monthly basis.

  • Do you really, honestly not understand it though? FAANG are the most valuable companies on the planet. They just blatantly bribe governments around the world (but especially the US) to leave them alone. Or they spend billions hiring lobbyists to protest it.

And the vast majority of their users obviously don't care. Virtually everyone I know uses Facebook on a regular basis, and yet I don't know a single person that uses the Fediverse. And when I tell them about it they act like I'm some sort of weird outcast or conspiracy theorist. People who don't care don't pressure politicians to fix it.

  • Of course he's not. We live in an attention economy and The Guardian is paying him.

  • "If we stopped testing right now, we'd have very few cases, if any,"

  • You're an idiot of you don't use PieFed instead 😃

  • Unrealistic. Stayed on topic for far too long.

  • Monopoly would be more realistic if 1 player started with a billion dollars, and thus the game was just over immediately without ever having a chance.

  • Because he delivered so hard in his last term? It's hard to see such illogical people voting for him in the first place so I can't see them using logic in this election. That's illogical. People vote based on culture and that's largely it. Tribalism.

  • Of course he does. Ya ever seen him take accountability for anything at all?

  • I'm a contractor for Amazon. This structure always confused the hell out of me but suddenly it all makes sense...

  • so for me it is not even about friends being on there

Have to disagree with you there. Those communities are made by people. Your friends certainly are some of them.

You could be that guy. Create the communities you want. Invite your friends. Be the change you want to see.

i do miss having access to that sort of information because it would get me out of the apartment and involved in local community events

Yes, I agree 100%. I quit the major platforms and experience this as well. I'm pretty much survived by the relationships I made from those communities but I do still get left out of a lot of stuff because I refuse to capitulate to them.

  • Honestly I think that's one thing we could learn from BSky. They have algorithms but they're created and shared by the community. Basically "choose your own algorithm".
