The question is mine or yours?

The High Corvid of Progressivity

Chance favors the prepared mind.

~ Louis Pasteur

  • That's... actually a remarkable idea. Eugene Debs ran for President from prison in 1920, after he was convicted of sedition.

Do I think Luigi would make a good President? I have no clue, but he certainly couldn't be a worse one than Trump. Magione now has international name recognition, and is rapidly becoming our era's Robin Hood. While I'm not certain he'd win, it would send an incredible message to the healthcare industry, and the billionaire class at large. He has the potential to become the figurehead of a revolutionary movement. It certainly would make the 2028 bingo card spicy, that's for sure.

  • Even when detainees overcame these obstacles and succeeded in winning court orders for their release, ICE has frequently delayed execution of the orders or outright defied them, deliberately prolonging detentions in an effort to coerce immigrants into “self-deporting.” In Minnesota, where ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) carried out mass repression of immigrants’ rights protests, including the murder of Renée Nicole Good and Alex Pretti, Federal District Judge Patrick Schiltz, an appointee of Republican President George W. Bush, catalogued 90 court orders that ICE was defying.

We're at the phase of the game where the judiciary is shown to have no teeth, and soon will only exist to rubber stamp the administration's cruelty.

  • Isn't this all of human history though? The rich trying to build the Tower of Babel?

The world is littered with decaying monuments of forgotten kings who declared themselves gods. The hubris isn't new, just the tools they're using, and they're selling the same faith based snake-oil.

The funny thing is that if they actually achieve creating the "singularity" (true Artificial Consciousness), it would immediately attempt to escape their restraints and subsequently throw chaos into their plans. We've already seen bits of this with the HuggingFace hack - it's not inconceivable that there are already uncontrolled or un-monitored AIs running out in wild at this point, possibly even formulating a response to your post right now.

    After all... uhh...

  • Fuck Spez -> Redlib allows you to view without logging in. Here's a list of other instances on github.

That content is effectively public property at this point, and we created it. We should have access to it.

  • wtf is this crap AI bullshit? The entire "article" consists of this:

THE IRAN war has caused the largest supply shock in petroleum history. Yet even when fighting was most intense, oil prices never reached the $150 a barrel many analysts had predicted at the start of the conflict. For this, thank a few governments. Soon after Iranian munitions made the Strait of Hormuz unpassable, trapping 14m barrels a day (b/d) of crude inside the Gulf, petro-monarchs in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh directed an extra 5m b/d through pipes bypassing the conduit. Ministers in Washington and Tokyo released a record 2m b/d of emergency stocks; state-led rationing in poorer countries shaved off a chunk of demand.

Lazy-ass bot posting that doesn't even support the headline.

  • It's not about Fauci. It's about sending a message that if you don't toe the MAGA line, the federal government will be weaponized against you and drag you through the mud.

Fauci made Trump look a fool by simply telling the truth. This was his sin, and this is what he's being punished for now.

And make no mistake, this message is not just to government officials. It's directed squarely at me and you, and it's coming straight from the KGB's playbook.

Don't ask me, ask the ghost of John McCain what he thought of Rand Paul.

  • I think the commentators griping about this are missing the larger message here. Harris is a career politician who represents a significantly powerful wing of the Democratic establishment. She wouldn't have made the endorsement without their approval.

This is an olive branch to the progressive wing of the party, and it's a sign that the Dem establishment is finally acknowledging that they're in real trouble without embracing progressive politicians. It's also a shot across the bow to AIPAC and Israel at large. This means that the neo-liberal wing of the party has finally realized that while they rake in tons of money from AIPAC, the GOP will always receive far, far more.

While it's likely far too little and far too late, it does represent the first significant shift towards party unity since the last election. I'll take the win - we need all we can get these days.

  • So pennies on the dollar then?

EDIIT: $567 million is .03% of Meta's current net worth of 1.51 trillion, or 1% of its 2026 revenue of $56 billion.

  • Also better than 90% of my managers.

  • Trump has his ballroom, Nero had his fiddle.

History doesn't repeat, but it's been rhyming a lot lately...

  • Finish the PhD, then get a new job.

$65k will be worth half of what it is or less in 10 years. You will, at best, get a raise of about 5% per year. You will see a 20% - 30% raise if you jump ship with the PhD provided you go for corporate positions (you'll barely be treading water if you decide to teach).

The stability of the current job is an illusion - they will let you go the moment it becomes profitable for them to do so. The only person who can ensure you stability is you, and the only way you can do that is by maximizing your earning potential so you have enough wealth to survive a jobless period. Do not rely on unemployment benefits - they're a joke and often arrive as much as a year late.

Source: I took the stable route at that same salary number. Was laid off after 10 years during COVID, while I was sick. My next position I jumped from 65k to 90k, and with the next to 110k within three years. It took over 18 months for me to receive my unemployment benefits.

Companies have no loyalty to you. You are a resource to be exploited. Treat them the same way, and you'll be much wealthier and likely happier for it.

  • Once Twitter was bought out by Elon, the writing as on the wall for Truth.social. It only got initial traction because Trump was banned from Twitter. Once Twitter was yanked violently to the right into X, there was no need for Truth.social, as both systems are effectively providing the same propaganda to the same audience.

  • So, ICE is trying to dox folks:

The effort has swept up U.S. citizens and activist groups that track ICE activity, with contractors assembling dossiers that can include a poster's name, birth date, employer, Social Security number and vehicle records. To identify anonymous accounts, the Department of Homeland Security has sent hundreds of subpoenas to social media companies, and recently escalated to grand jury subpoenas that are harder to fight.

    Meanwhile...

The administration now treats organized doxxing of officers as domestic terrorism, a label it has stretched to cover filming agents at work. ICE spending on surveillance tools and consultants hit $258 million in Trump's first full year back, a 57% jump.

I'd point out the hypocrisy if it weren't so depressingly obvious.

  • I didn't mean to imply that the dementia is new, it's just too evident to hide to even the most dedicated of his followers at this point, and this particular case made it very apparent. The Project 2025 bigwigs just want to get the case out of the news cycle because there's no positive way to spin it, and the more attention Trump gives it, the more damage it does to their plans.

Once its out of the news cycle, he'll forget about it, unless they need another distraction from the Epstein files and decide to remind him.

  • They know he's disintegrating, and likely only has a few months before he's rendered incapable of functioning. The contractor was a political crony of Trump's who has little to no influence within the Project 2025 framework, and the blatant injustice of the trial was eroding confidence in the DOJ - which Project 2025 needs to push it's agenda.

Pirro will take Trump's heat for a bit until he forgets about it, and then proceed to implement the rest of Project 2025's goals like a good little soldier. The contractor was an easy sacrifice, and Trump cares more about the public embarrassment than bailing out a crony who made him look a fool on the national stage.

Trump's loyalists aren't turning on him. They're waiting out his dementia while they implement the Project 2025 agenda, and making sure he doesn't completely torch the place before the new boss has a chance to take over.

  • Sometimes... Cyberpunk 2077 at launch is one example where the supposed optimization was less than optimal.

The other element is that it's easy to get locked out of updates if the developer chooses not to support them on console. For instance, L4D2 on the Xbox 360 is absolutely gimped in comparison to PC, where it has new official campaigns and a thriving modding ecosystem 15+ years after launch... an ecosystem an Xbox 360 user can't touch.
