  • the Jackson adaptations also explicitly said that Arwen carried Frodo across the ford of Bruinen, that Eowyn was at Helm's Deep, that Saruman died at Isengard, that Faramir took Frodo and Sam to Osgiliath as prisoners, that Pippin was the one who lit the beacon of Amon Dîn, that the hobbits returned to the Shire and it was more or less the same as they left it, and many other things that explicitly do not happen in the books. should we take all those as canonical too?

  • I'm no expert on educational administration or hiring practices, but I don't really see why it would have any tangible impact on your life. if you've been to college and gotten a degree there, then nobody cares about your high school diploma, and I doubt the college would revoke your degree because of some administrative fuckery that happened at your high school years ago; you've still met all of the college's requirements to receive a degree.

    and even if you didn't go to college, you've got work experience in whatever field you're in, which is more valuable to any employer than a diploma. most jobs that hire high school grads or people with GEDs are probably willing to hire dropouts with years of experience

  • y'all're going about this all wrong, trying to come up with things that sound gross. the real strategy is to describe something you wish existed but doesn't. then if someone points out that it does, you "lose" by finding out about a food you would really like but were unaware of.

    anyway, mine is coffee chocolate chip walnut ice cream (even though apparently op says new ice cream flavors don't count). so if anyone knows where I can buy coffee chocolate chip walnut ice cream, come own me so hard, I'll be devastated

  • in the US we have a different holiday called Labor Day in early September, which was originally just because the weather is usually nice. in the late 19th century there were unofficial events on both days. when it was proposed to make one of them an official federal holiday, labor organizers were divided about which one it should be. the president at the time was a conservative, and thought that making May Day official would encourage solidarity with European workers, and commemorate the Haymarket affair, which he wanted to avoid, so he made the September one official.

    so we work on May Day, and Labor Day is a federal holiday. which means white collar people get the day off and service industry people work extra so that the white collar people can enjoy themselves

  • I wish I could do this, but I need something for my eyes and/or hands to be doing. and eyes usually means reading, which requires attention and language processing, so it has to be instrumental music, otherwise the lyrics get distracting
