  • I could get away with looking at a portrait/painting/whatever of a person and use it to kill their younger self

    My idea was that as long as the portrait was painted by someone who saw the person while they were alive, it counts as seeing their face.

    So Napoleon can be killed, but not Ea-Nasir. You’d have to go buy some copper and meet him in person first.

  • Making art. I get things from thrift stores or the clearance sections of craft stores. The challenge is to find a way to make the random colors of half dried up paint and a donated unfinished project into something new.

    Art is the antidote to fascism. Fascism is a death cult with no creative energy. Fascists can’t make good art.

  • My first year teaching, they hired a physical education teacher to teach physical science. About one month in, they also “emergency certified” a secretary so they could get our class sizes below the thirties.

    States like Oklahoma and Louisiana are working on taking away the requirements that teachers even have a bachelors degree.

    I knew a biology teacher who was a creationist and actively told students that the COVID vaccine was dangerous. And he of course got the Department Head job, because I was a queer.

  • I remember watching an episode where Sheldon makes a “joke” about Ubuntu being his favorite Linux distribution. Like, no. No self respecting “better than you” geek would say they liked fucking Ubuntu. The screenwriters could have spent five more minutes googling and picked something like Gentoo to make it not sound stupid.

    I hate shows where the main characters are supposed to be super intelligent, but it’s all told to us by the writers (who aren’t super intelligent) instead of shown.

    The Big Bang Theory drives me up the wall for similar reasons. That’s not how real smart people act or talk.

  • Moral Orel is better than its first season lets on. If you can get past the juvenile gross-out factor of episodes like “Gods Chef,” you’ll find an absolutely brutal depiction of what’s it’s like to live in christofascist middle America and what it’s like to have a dying marriage (fun story: my ex husband had “No Children” played at our wedding, despite my objections. Fortunately the title was true at our divorce.)

    Columbo is fucking awesome. It’s a murder mystery show, but you see the murder happen first, so the fun is all in how Columbo figures it out. He’s just the most charming character in any TV show ever. The episodes are standalone, so you can just watch a random one and have a great time.
