  • I mean, it unlocked big ideas earlier than most people, and I got a head start on serious critical thinking, which has shaped my life in many positive ways. But it didn't, like, directly lead to financial prosperity. Honestly it probably hampered it because I had too much context to exploit others with a clear conscience way before I had the means to do so at scale.

    "Reading level" is more about literary comprehension than technical understanding. And embracing baser modes of expression has only made it easier to effectively communicate.

    Above-average reading level is only really helpful long-term if you specialize in literature.

  • Well, I love arguing in online forums, but I find obsequious, flattering LLM chats to be extremely frustrating. Every once in a while I'll try to use an LLM as a sounding board for a thought process I'm exploring, and I have to give up because instead of actually pushing back on anything it just tells me how smart I am for my genius argument. Like yes obviously I know that but it isn't helpful. Even when I try to refine it to be actually adversarial, it doesn't last long.

    So the boring answer is that it's definitely not a perfect overlap.

  • None yet but we're starting to plan for it. It's basically the closest thing to an objective "meaning of life", and if only assholes have kids then the future is going to belong to people raised by assholes.

    Additionally, everyone tells me I'm going to be a really good parent. My dad was pretty terrible, and my mom was useless in standing up to him, so I have a ton of experience with what not to do. I've got a bunch of younger siblings, so significant experience. I kinda feel like it's my duty to have and raise good children to help make the future better.

  • They're not entirely off the mark though. Native-born Americans are pretty spoiled and complacent, on average. Immigrants, even kids, tend to have more of a sense of context and a sort of hustle mentality. My wife's an immigrant and we've talked at length about it.

    You're right that he's as American as any other citizen in ways that matter, but born-and-raised Americans are more likely to get swept up in our bread and circuses.

    Haphazard corpses don't change the world, no matter how noble their intentions before becoming corpses. This isn't a problem you throw bodies at. This is a problem which requires organization, and strategies more coherent than "Riot".
