  • It's home assistant showing air con integration, with a custom graph. The coloured solid lines are sensors around the house, the green band is the temperature range we try and keep the house. The two coloured dotted lines are outdoor sensors, so we can see how the external temperature is impacting the internal temps, and the grey dotted line is the the temp provided by a weather service for our suburb.

  • Yeah, there's not much point in spending money on z-wave today, but we had some old devices laying around, so we put them to use! :)

  • This is an old z-wave 6 in 1 sensor that was brought out of retirement when we spun up home assistant again.

It spikes even when not in direct sunlight, so I think it may just be past its prime. We've got plenty of others integrated, and a weather station in the back yard, so this one was more just a case of using a sensor we had laying around then needing to use it.

  • There was no real cat. That particular sensor seems to read high during the peak temperatures of the day, and likely needs to be replaced.

  • parkrun has been very strongly inclusive of trans folk, so they aren't likely to fold easily to this sort of stuff. They consulted me as part of their 2019 overhaul of the way they handled gender, specifically because they wanted to hear trans voices.

I've spoken at one of their regional conferences, and they even stuck my rambling on a video on youtube to highlight what inclusion looks like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoFMav9G8vs

  • I used to be a really good runner until I transitioned! :P

  • I wing it. There might be some big ticket things I know I'm going to do, but even those, I know I'm going to do them, but I organise it on the fly when I'm there.

  • You were banned because you posted lolicon art.

  • You're not giving it away. You still get a feed in rate. And if you installed a battery at the same time, you can avoid the peak charges that kick in after the solar peak has passed.

  • This is a screenshot from the AER PDF on the solar sharer program, which you can find here https://www.aer.gov.au/system/files/2026-05/AER%20-%20Solar%20Sharer%20Offer%20fact%20sheet%20-%20DMO%208%20final%20determination.pdf

I'm in Queensland, so the Energex rates apply. The base tariff rate is 26c until 11am, then free for 3 hours. Then 8c for 2 hours and then 49c between 4 and 9pm. My memory was off, and it's only double the rate, but my point still stands. The peak time is a lot more expensive on the solar sharer plan, so you need to do the maths and make sure your usage will be shifted towards the free period and away from the peak, because if your highest usage is in the peak period and you don't mitigate that, you could end up paying more on the solar sharer plan. You can absolutely save money on the SSO, and we use it for that reason, but you can also end up out of pocket.

  • This is what I was going to say!

  • This pretty much was my job up until recently, though we get better leave than that in Australia.

  • I used tesseract as my daily driver for lemmy, and honestly, it was and is the best lemmy interface I've used, at least in terms of the tools it had to make admin and moderation tasks easier.

But we were also running an older version and hadn't upgraded to the version with the blocks, or otherwise, we'd have been in the same boat as db0, because we were one of the instances blocked by the list

  • Language, because I can work the rest out and learn them more quickly than I can learn a language.

  • Seconded. I self host it for family members for that reason!

  • I rarely remember my dreams, and when I do, they're normally just boring everyday stuff. Nothing profound to be found

  • Not a fork, and not a response to Linus' comments, but fuck, why let that get in the way of a headline?

  • In Shadowrun, they've merged. Not being American myself, I was surprised to discover they were actually distinct cities!

  • I've never been to Seattle, but I knew about the Tacoma Aroma from playing Shadowrun for so many years (The default setting is Seattle)
