  • True, but the reasons they're undelivered do matter. It isn't that they are trying to 'keep voters dependant', they literally don't have the votes.

    They have been passing every lasting policy they can with the votes they do have. We got infrastructure funding, renewable energy investments, 73 new chip fabs, and cannabis has been officially rescheduled. Those are policies that will have a major impact for decades.

    Democrats also support tuition free college, but haven't been able to get the bill passed yet. Student loan forgiveness can be passed with executive orders, but tuition free college would require a bill passed by Congress.

  • I love black humor, but this is weak. A good black joke uses dark subjects to amplify effective humor, it's not just funny because it's crude. This is more akin to shock humor. The place it really falls short is the punchline imo.

    Frankly I think the amount I've suffered probably detracts from it if anything; I've been there for two different friends after they lost a sister to suicide, both had been aggressively sexualized during their depression.

    It's almost like an anti-joke, where the humor comes from how offensive it is. It's sad to think there are people who live this sort of experience, being seen as a sex object more than a human being, even in the darkest hours of their life. That's gotta fuck someone up.

  • Weird, I switched to an EV to save money. In my experience they're wildly cheaper to maintain (no gas, no oil changes, no transmission/gaskets/fuel pump/filter/exhaust/spark plugs/starter/alternator, etc.), and my used EV cost the same as the used ICE cars I was looking at.

    Most of the places I charge are free, I've saved more on gas than I paid for the car already.

  • I think you're the one who is moving the goalposts. There's no requirement for the monkeys to submit their output, the test is whether the text of Hamlet is among their key presses. As long as there is a nonzero chance, then there is a 100% chance it would appear in an infinite system. Any non-zero probability times infinity has a 100% chance of occuring eventually.

    The monkeys mostly produce gibberish, that's the vast majority of the potential outputs, but among that massive number is also the full text of Hamlet.

  • There aren't an infinite arrangements of keystrokes that are the length of Hamlet and aren't Hamlet. Hamlet is 191,726 characters long, it's like guessing a password.

    44 keys on a typewriter, 191726 characters, makes 44191726 or about 4.054 × 10315094 combinations.

  • If the monkeys were truly infinite would time even matter? For any set of monkeys that could write Hamlet within a year there's an infinite number of duplicate sets, so they could do as much writing in one day as the original set would do over the age of the universe.
