    No, the person I replied to said that, they were replying to OP.

    That’s quite black and white view from your part IMO.

    If your answer to "where are the different opinions" is "no trolls," then you are putting the lack of diversity on trolls. Which is black and white, yes, and why I disagree with it.

    Sometimes we have the tankie trolls here on lemmy too

    Which is why "no trolls" is a bad answer to OP's question.

  • So is that your response to OP's question then? They're wrong about seemingly everyone agreeing because they are mistaking respect for agreement? They mention wanting to see dissenting opinions respectfully, so I don't think that's the case. They are talking about how the majority seems to be on the same wavelength, not that there is a lack of polarization. Again it seems like you have an answer to a question OP didn't ask ("Why aren't there more trolls and tribalism on the fediverse?") because that's what you want to talk about instead.

Really I think you're just answering a different question than OP asked to frame it as a positive for the fediverse, which doesn't address the actual concerns. As you say, real life people are better at voicing different opinions, and this isn't an ad-supported network, so where are the non-troll different opinions?

    I also gotta disagree with the idea that the fediverse is adverse to "user number go up!" mentality, the most common response to me saying a post is off topic or low quality or something is "it doesn't matter because we need more content to attract more users!"

  • what an extremely lazy comic, "weekends good, unions good" and reusing the same panel 4 times. Couldn't even contrive a scenario to share your opinion with a setup and punchline. And if you really want to get nitpicky, it's not even correct because blue says "thank god it's the weekend," not "thank god for weekends."

  • How do you successfully maintain a calorie deficit over the long run?

  • Count your calories and see what isn't worth it. Usually the best thing to cut first is liquid calories, when I realized I could basically have another meal a day if I quit soda, it made things a lot easier.

    I guess the most important thing would be to focus on lifestyle changes. You can have a super strict diet for months and lose tons of weight, but if you don't incorporate that as a permanent change, it can be easy to gain it back while not in "diet mode." Smaller changes that you stick with perpetually are better in the long run, even a 100 calorie daily deficit will eventually see results.

    Also perhaps get a kitchen scale for portion control, this kinda ties in with counting your calories, but after I started measuring meals it was also easier to not overeat.

  • Because the current system is setup to exclude third party voters, mathematically the FPTP system will result in a two party duopoly. And we've seen time and time again that the spoiler effect reduces votes to the party more similar to the third party.

    So yeah, unless you get all the people to dedicate to a third party blowout, it is a waste. If an incumbent president didn't have enough influence to break the duopoly by going third party, do you really think it's ever going to happen? Particularly without a huge movement of said third party?

    Pragmatically speaking, voting third party only serves to help the people you disagree with more.
