Yeah, this is one hell of an own-goal. All he really had to do was just stay out of the way and let the original plans proceed as scheduled then claim credit. His base would've eaten that up and the media would've spent weeks writing puff pieces about what a good job he did by not interfering. But what am I saying, staying out of the way and then claiming credit would've worked during COVID too, but he couldn't manage to do that either.
