Hack the planet.

  • Yeah, it's not as important as professionals make it out to be. Like, if you under-salt a dish, people will notice that the meal doesn't taste as good as the last time you made it, even if they can't identify why. But the "depth" that bay leaves are supposed to add to a dish, probably won't even register for most people. I don't think bay leaves are entirely useless, but I do think it's safe for home cooks to consider it an optional ingredient. If you have them, use them. If you don't this time? Don't worry about it.

  • That sounds like something I gotta try. Would you mind sharing the recipe?

  • I guess this hot take depends on the audience... But if you don't have bay leaves on hand for a recipe, your family and friends aren't going to notice the difference. When push comes to shove, it's probably the least important part of any recipe. If you're making soup or a stock, it's gonna be fine without it.

  • Yep, the fact that immigrants commit less crime than native-born citizens has been known since Herbert Hoover established the Wickersham Commission in 1929. What makes this study uniquely important is its methodology.

To estimate the undocumented population at the neighborhood level, the research team accessed restricted individual-level Census data through a federal Research Data Center (RDC) and then applied an imputation method similar to those used by the Department of Homeland Security.

This is where they relied on the expertise of Christopher, who received his training at UC Irvine, earning an economics Ph.D. in 2022 before joining Stanford.

Christopher is one of the few academic researchers to have published work leveraging such a method.

  • Chance of a 1hr old account trotting out anti-immigrant talking points not being a troll: 0%

  • This is empty twitter posturing. Florida's AG has no jurisdiction.

    1. The foul occurred at the United Center in Chicago.
    2. The teams were based out of Indiana and Illinois.
    3. The WNBA is headquartered in NYC.
    4. The WNBA does not have any teams in Florida.

He's just trying to sound tough by dreaming up a hypothetical scenario where he gets to intervene. But the conditions do not currently exist for this power fantasy of his to actually take place.

  • I guess "YouTuber uploads new video" isn't as attention grabbing but it feels more accurate. The guy's got a channel where he speculates on current events in politics and noteworthy criminal cases. He'll release another video about the signs of Trump's mental decline next week too, because he does one every week.

  • So others don't have to search for the missing context like I did: https://piefed.ca/post/887087#comment_5810045

It means that person had previously tagged you for being a suspected troll before deciding to block you entirely.

  • The comment you replied to:

Peak capitalism: pay just to see an ad.

So yes, we are in fact talking about paying for access to an ad.

  • lol, I can’t wait for someone to explain to you what an OTA broadcast is and how much it costs to view. The Super Bowl isn’t a relevant example for the comment you’re replying to.

  • The problem is the type of people that join TS (or any other alt-right tech social service) are not actually happy preaching to the choir. They need people to argue with. So they inevitably go right back to twitter, threads, reddit, etc. when they realize they aren't getting the negative attention that they're used to receiving for trolling on mainstream social platforms.

  • No, his vote just isn't necessary to push through Blanche, so he gets to vote against it this time. This is just theater. It's a common Republican tactic, and as we're all unfortunately aware of now, Fetterman is a Republican in everything but name.
