  • I don't trust him and probably never will, but I do admit he's at least charismatic. He'll be able to navigate not being a straight white man. Anyone he can't charm to see past that wasn't going to vote for a Democrat in the first place. It's the same reason AOC being a woman isn't a problem.

    Buttigieg also had the veneer of forward thinking progressivism before he turned moderate because Bernie and Warren had filled that lane (why I'm never going to trust him). So he can also give lip service to big change like Obama did too. He just doesn't believe any of it.

    Like Obama he's nicely packaged but too enraptured with the idea of power to actually meaningfully pursue change. And we can't keep turning to painkillers when we've got these increasingly infected wounds. When you leave things like Guantanamo to fester because it's just too hard and you want good vibes, they open the way for lawless concentration camps at home.

  • Proportional voting doesn't give X votes to each voter. You can just look up how these different options work instead of imagining that they're dumb and you were the one to figure out an obvious flaw.

  • You can have proportional voting where votes go to specific people. Basically just do away with House districts and then have X slots. Top X vote getters get elected. You can also have a form of ranked choice where excess votes (beyond what's needed to secure a position) get proportionally spread among the other candidates according to their second choices.

    This is clownish. They're weird tankies who also write software they give away for free. They don't build blocklists to secretly shape the Lemmy Fediverse or even force you to hear their opinions. They have nearly zero political impact on the world at large but quite a lot of impact on federated software, but apparently annoying you through inaction is your red line.

    The poster above implied that some sampling of voters from conservative states translates into something about nationwide sentiment. Cori Bush was a reelected representative of Missouri's first district. If they actually wanted to find progressives, they wouldn't be hard to track down.
