Yes, that's been their stance for some time but there have been workarounds that others have come up with. I'm interested in seeing if anyone is aware of one that still works.
I imagine my situation isn't unique in that I have a lot of stored MFA and figured I'd ask so that if a working solution does exist it may also be shared with anyone else in a similar situation.
My understanding is that it'd be based on what's been federated to your instance. Since ml has been around longer than most instances, a lot of their history never got federated.

This may be region-specific. In my area, I generally see it the other way around. But unless you're the only person, it's usually pretty clear which side to stand.
I think for issues like this it may be good to develop a practice of using the spoiler tag with a warning attached. This way it's up to the reader to decide if they want to read it and is flexible enough to cover all of the various use cases.
