  • You might be correct there, though I don't know if he needs to do much about SLS. It's a 1970s rocket that's already blown through multiple budgetary lines. It's like investing in a car design from the 1970s but paying inflated 2070s prices for it. He might not do much to help it, but SLS has long been turning into an embarrassment for NASA -- it's been mismanaged, huge budgetary overruns, and constant delays.

    Ironically, the goal is to eventually turn over SLS production and launch operations to a private venture anyway. After SX got more involved with NASA operations, the bloated and inferior SLS program looks even worse. Maybe he tries to have that private venture deal be SpaceX contract instead of Northrup Grumman and Boeing, but that returns us to the "why?" question.

    By the time NASA is ready to hand it off to private hands, it's going up be so far behind where SX is at that I doubt they'd want to touch that program with a ten-foot pole. If he's going to do anything, he'll probably just try to have SX be the primary contractor for that mission rather than SLS under the guise of efficiency, superior technology, and cost savings. And he'll be right.

  • I seriously think he decided not to take an office he'd already won because it would take away the one justification the ethics committee had to not release the report, i.e., he is no longer a congressman. The more he's willing to do anything to not have the report come out, the more I want to know wtf it says. Presumably it must be more than was already known, otherwise why so scared? It was already leaked that they have testimony that he had sex twice with an additional separate 17yo, so maybe that's it, but it feels like there must be more than that. I'm wondering if the new testimony didn't implicate other Republicans or something.

  • NASA is already utterly reliant on SpaceX, SX gets bigger contracts, less regulation, and more freedom for non-US partnerships as a private contracter than they would as an official arm of the US government. They have absolutely nothing to gain by having Musk target NASA.

  • His mandate derives from the republican majority control of the house, senate, presidency, supreme court, governorships, and state legislatures. Popular vote is a narrow and deceptive way to understand a mandate. We're basically arguing here about whether he should feel good about being able to do what he wants. Frankly, I don't think he cares.

    No rational person thinks he can't do what he wants. We're all just left debating whether he should and how he should feel about it, which is largely inconsequential and a really sad and pointless conversation to be having.

I still think the fact that he resigned from congress stated he didn't plan on being sworn in, and then when he realized he AG pick was putting extra pressure on the committee to release the report, withdrew himself from consideration speaks to that report being particularly damning. He's doing massive contortions with big impact on his career to avoid it.

    It's almost as though it contains proof he's a rapist and sexual abuser or something, which is bad if your a congressman, but ironically give him excellent presidential potential.

  • House ethics committee. They're arguing they don't investigate anyone outside of congress. They're not weighing in on the ethical actions of random people.

    I mean it's a stupid argument since the investigation is about a member of the house. At no point was the investigation done on someone that wasn't a congressman during the investigation. It's just the dumbest, most republican-ass, totally unsurprising move. But, it's not like these Republicans are known for their ethics.

    Has Trump nominated anyone yet that hasn't been involved in issues of sexual assault or harassment? Maybe Dr. Oz, but other than that, he's really knocking them out of the park. If the GOP starting getting critical of pedophiles, they'd lose half their caucus.

  • I will just say that given the composition of that committee, the fact that they're not saying "no we're not releasing it, fuck off" really leads me to believe it's bad enough that even some number of those amoral shit-sniffers feel a sense of duty to release it, which is really saying something. You've even got Republicans coming out of the woodwork saying it needs to be released to protect Trump.

  • While I've said no one is paying attention to you if you're not peeing -- and I think it's largely true, I've never really noticed if someone doesn't start peeing; I guess I would just assume they were stealth peeing against the side of the urinal -- I have to admit I do notice those old guys that stand there for like five minutes leaking it out a spurt at a time. They seem to defy the 21 second rule.

  • No worries, I think a lot of people thought I was being an ass instead of honestly just having never thought about it. I wonder if it has something to do with growing up in a big family and playing sports and stuff. Like, I think I just became to desensitized to it. If I needed privacy to pee, I would probably wouldn't have peed through all of high school and college lol.

    The amount of time I've dumped a whizzer while someone was right next to me, talking to me, or once while two other people were in a tiny bathroom at a party... at bars where there was no urinal and no door on the stall... that last one was a pretty notorious bathroom, because like I said, the stall had no door, but also the door to the bathroom itself was a pair of those swinging doors like in wild west movies. I'll admit having to take a shit while you could still see the people at the bar was pretty awkward. One of my favorite dive bars. 🤣

  • Got it. Well, I'm sure it doesn't help, but I don't think anyone notices if someone is or isn't making pee noise. I think that's kind of the point of the comic, i.e., that never happens because no one is timing your piss cycle (I hope!).
