  • You low-ball my understanding. I know all that, which is why I mentioned it possibly being merely a survival technique. However, she's tried to play "both sides" a bit too often in recent years for my liking - on issues ranging from Amazon warehouse workers to Israel.

    While she may still generally be on the people's side, I fear she may have been convinced to be "more pragmatic," which really means continued support of the status quo in fear of disrupting too many lives with significant change. Significant, rapid change is the only thing that will save this country, IMHO, or the oligarchs will just figure out how to corrupt things again.

  • I don't think so. She's decidedly fallen more in line with the mainstream Dems than I'd like. Whether that's just a survival technique & she re-emerges as the person she started out as once she's up on top is anybody's guess.

  • While I agree with you, I think you overestimate the depth of interest of the average American. "Swing voters" who sway each election tend to be especially more superficial than the average - they are the biggest problem.

  • There are others capable of taking up the reins, such as Mamdani. The movement won't die, but potentially might be a bit rudderless for a bit as it figures out how to regroup & try again.

    Unfortunately, the subset of Americans who actually understand what's at stake still seems to be smaller than we'd like. Fortunately, enough of the other side had started becoming disillusioned enough with Cheeto Messiah that they will at least not be so much of an obstacle.

  • Not everybody is good at extrapolating a specific instance such as LBJ was referring to into a wider, more generally applicable pattern, or reframing it onto other similar, but not closely identical patterns. I'm sure the author was well aware, but was writing in a more general sense for a wider audience to apply to specific situations they're facing.

  • Just came from this post linking to an article quoting several of Fauci's diary entries that were released by Rand Paul. It's obvious Paul thinks nobody will actually read the entries because they are frankly anything but damning. Fauci was more restrained and respectful of Trump than I ever could have expected of someone in his position. It's clear that this is all nothing but political charades.
