  • No. They need life in prison. Hundreds of them.

  • Remember that story where the good guys committed extortion and fraud to succeed? Yeah, me neither...

  • We're already letting them bro. The great filter is us. I'll be surprised if we make it to 2050. The entire industrial revolution is an unplanned terraform, and our response to the potential destruction of a stable climate, and most macroscopic life on Earth, is to double down, consume product, elect pedophiles, worship the most morally bankrupt psychopaths and sociopaths in politics, business, and entertainment; not to mention the widespread contempt and lack of empathy for "others" not like me, for some flagrantly dissonant reason.

We are in the midst of a global mental illness epidemic, and the average talking chimp is sleepwalking through it; barely cognizant of what is even happening outside their personalized propaganda bubble.

  • You don't have to be a genius to understand that she's almost certainly pro-fascist, and the fascist government are protecting their fellow domestic enemies.

  • I'm sure the corporate whores of the 2020's "Labor" party will bend over like the neoliberal cucks they are.

Like Canada, they'll probably virtue signal sovereignty but continue the backend business deals with fascism, and continue courting the political financing of the fascist elite.

  • It's more likely that the government is compromised by other for-profit interests, and most shit legislation is intentionally hamstrung or loop holed.

  • Statistical models are not technically algorithms; they are a heuristic which "approximates" a solution probabilistically. They use algorithms to function and operate on data (like everything a computer does) but they are not algorithms themselves.

The main thing they have to do is clearly define that results derived by statistical modeling are opt-in, set limits on what personal data can be used to present content, and ensure there are significant penalties for crippling the experience of everyone who hasn't opted-in, which all are guaranteed to do to force users to opt-in.

They should define a bare minimum baseline of data points that should be made available to users to control the content they want to see using non-statistical algorithms (e.g. time, location, content type or popularity, friends/subs/followed only or ones they recommend themselves, etc). They should also define that opt-in/out (enabling and disabling statistical model results) should be a part of the main filter UI that uses the aforementioned data points; a simple toggle at the top of their page/feed, permanently visible and near-instantly applicable; otherwise they're guaranteed to hide it away and make opt-in/out a major friction point.

Basically you need to treat them like they're sociopathic criminals who will never act in good faith voluntarily, because all multinationals and large corporations are lead by criminally corrupt sociopaths.

  • The cause is capitalism. Every company is driven by an insatiable profit motive to endlessly grow, and extract as much value from consumers and employees as possible, like a cancer.

  • The problem with that is the vast majority have no idea how pervasive and oppressive surveillance capitalism truly is. If they knew that the data from their various devices and services was being aggregated by thousands of data brokers, and could be used by employers to pay them lower wages, or businesses to charge them higher prices, or insurance to deny them healthcare, or cyber criminals to scam them, most would be genuinely shocked that most of this shit is "legal".

The other problem is that there's no way to opt out of techno fascism. They are free to stalk you for profit and there's nothing you can do about it. Even if you live in a faraday cage they'll still amass data on you. It's hard to take a moral stance when you think they're gonna fuck you every which way regardless.

  • And that probably doesn't even make the top ten in the list of corrupt shit he's done this year.

The most concerning thing about this stat, is when you realize roughly 30% of Americans are so mentally ill from propaganda that they believe him and his fascist cronies are the "goodies" fighting corruption.

  • Like "states rights", what they really mean is "localized tyranny". They only wish it to be the law of the land when it aligns with their tyranny and fascism... because they are sociopathic traitorous criminals who do not value the meaning of words beyond the power and control it grants them in bad faith.

To any fascist, dictator, or authoritarian the rule of law is nothing more than a rope to hang you with. It does not apply to them; only to their opposition.

  • A search engine presenting people with the most expensive/profitable options via an AI is "manipulating prices".

They are almost certainly presenting options based on what is most profitable to them, but instead of search where it says "sponsored" and you can scroll through list of links, they assertively provide you with the option, or a selected subset. That is an abuse of power by a criminal cartel monopoly.

  • He's probably only complaining because it's affecting him personally. If it was only destroying everyone else's lives he would be happy to be an executioner. After all, he's just following orders.

  • Did the golden bribe from Tim Apple not tell you what side of the fascist kleptocracy Apple chose?

  • If not owned, shouldda said "rent".

  • What the majority want has never stopped major political parties from working together to force through unpopular policies that benefit the elite; like constructing the entire mass surveillance apparatus to begin with.

  • Do you have any evidence for this, because I've studied history, and I've never read anything that indicated the "socialist" part was anything but a scammy populist virtue signal?

  • It's more of a reverse funnel system. A pyramid scheme, if you will.

  • then exactly what social contract are we upholding

The one where criminals, thieves, scammers, and pedophiles are free to commit whatever crimes they want, as long as they operate on behalf of capital.

  • Not The Onion @lemmy.world
