  • Some additional info based on their published material (screenshot below). The software gets its data from "publicly available sources" which includes tracking information from many different online advertisers, public social media posts, etc. As we know, the advertising data can sometimes have your personal info attached - sometimes not. Babel Street claims to anonymize the data, but let's assume there is a $$ amount at which they won't.

    So, theoretically, if you can successfully avoid ad trackers, and you don't post on social media platforms except where you want to be "seen", you can avoid this tracking (granted that seems quite impossible these days).

  • Just another reason I register as a Republican. If anyone is going to commit voter fraud, it's them, and you know they aren't challenging voter registrations they think are on their side.

  • I use Android (Samsung) and I've never been able to find one that works. Sometimes I use Chrome, but many apps, like Connect for Lemmy have a builtin web viewer that I think is using the native web browser (so I need something that covers both). I would appreciate any suggestions.

  • Trump and the GOP are directly responsible for killing the part of ACA that required people to have insurance in 2017. That is what allowed all the young healthy people to drop their insurance which caused costs to go up for everyone else. It de-socialized it.

  • Nothing valuable, but I discovered a cache of Matchbox cars, coins, spoons, and small plastic toys all in a small spot in my yard when I first moved in. Seemed cool imaging the kids playing there years prior. Building tunnels in the dirt to drive their cars through and accidentally burying them for me to find later.

  • I have a few friends in the industry. If you are talking about cooking, my opinion of it is mostly negative. Sure, there are many good chefs, but unfortunately, the job is a magnet for people that really wanted to do something else with their life and failed. Those same people are often drug addicts, alcoholics, or just not great people. So, you work with alot of problematic and troubled people. Coworkers being out for prison sentences is common. The pay is not great because there are soooo many people doing it.

    Sure, you could find a job at the nicest restaurant in town and avoid some of that, but think about how many of those restaurants there are in your town - compared to how many people in the world think they can cook. It's like winning the lottery to get that job.

  • As an older developer, you could replace "machine learning" with "statistical modeling" and "artificial intelligence" with "machine learning".

  • I expected another story about a Tesla self-driving passengers to their doom. Instead, "the driver accidentally hit the gas pedal", so it being a Tesla is really an irrelevant detail. Would the headline have read "Hyundai plunges into Norway fjord..." if it were a different car.
