  • Don't really get why you got downvoted. Probably someone still using an old 32" HD Ready screen warning 480p content saying it's fine and they don't see the difference anyway.

    Modern TVs do upscaling, so anything lower res you watch on a 4K or 8K screen will get upscaled a bit. Watching crappy quality stuff on a 4K tv will get blown up enough for you to really see a difference compared to a lower def tv.

    That said, it's really no use looking at just the resolution. Most likely, an 8K TV will have a panel that is just better overall quality (depending on the brand, of course). You'll have better HDR, most likely it's gonna be 12 bit colour, the contrast ratio will be excellent, it might even have decent sound. It's just gonna be an overall high end TV. Apps will run more smoothly because it's likely they fitted it with a decent processor. The image processing engine is just better because it'll have to be. Again, unless it's a cheapo brand that only focused on the 8K of it and left the rest on the table.

    It probably won't really justify paying triple what you'd pay for a decent 4K TV but there's gotta be early adopters, otherwise we'll stay on the current gen forever.

  • I got my ASUS ROG 850W Platinum for 100 euros, two years ago. XPG is a pretty unknown to me so I'm shocked this is considered cheap.

    Edit: had a check on my go to tech website and this unit used to be around 250. I guess it has some unique features or something.

    That said, the CyberCore II has replaced it. This is the older model. I also see they run on 115V making them pretty useless in Europe.

  • You can just browse all or browse all of your instance (the Portuguese lemmy?).

    The pro vs reddit is that it's federated. This means that every lemmy instance can have its own rules, communities and members, but they can interact with other lemmy instances (for example, I'm from lemmy.world) as long as the home instance allows connecting to that lemmy instance.

    It works similarly to reddit, but there is no one company controlling it all. You could start your own instance today and federate with any instance you like. The user count is a lot lower, as you might expect, but you'll still get a decent amount of content through actual users, but also a lot of bots posting news to specific communities.

    I use Boost for Lemmy, it used to be a reddit client. It also gives you the option to block or mute users, communities or entire instances. For me, this means I can subscribe to stuff I'm really interested in but just use all for scrolling through the lemmyverse.

  • You're somewhat correct of course but the NSFW tag exists for a reason. If there is one entire category of /all you can just filter out due to lack of interest, it should be stuff like that. Maybe at some point we'll also get an 'AI' tag.

    The pro of being able to 'safely', for lack of a better term, browse /all is being able to discover stuff that you are not subscribed to, stuff you might not find otherwise.
