  • I would be much less reluctant to do this for work, since I, well, pretty much only do work stuff on my work laptop with it. But how is this verification supposed to work? I am very not okay with some random company doing this. Especially if they retain the data.

    There is also zero reason for doing this. I am very clearly over 18 and my account is tied to a company mail address...

  • What is it with file systems? ext4 is fast, for some use cases XFS is faster and there's that. No wear-leveling in hardware? F2FS. Advanced stuff? btrfs or ZFS. Something super basic? FAT32. Might need to include one more for NVRAM.

    I wish this was even close to all file systems still in use.

  • I think it seems much more professional if you get concrete right away. More concrete than 'I have a project' anyway. Tell them roughly what the project is about, what role you think they can fill and why you think so.

    If you write a generic mail like the one OP posted, it just seems like random spam

    You can probably make a sustainable business out of AI agents! Having something like Claude Code is pretty neat. I love having it at my side. Would I pay the business rates for it? Hell nah. They need to bring down their cost, gain efficiency. Maybe increase reliability while they are at it.

    There is no infinite growth as long as AI doesn't learn to act reliably, and on its own. According to experts this is anywhere from 10 to 100 years away. As someome with a CS major, I tend to agree.

  • I don't know what you think you are on about, but (in western countries) rapists aren't usually executed or tortured, and mental illness is usually taken into accout in sentencing of anything. That said, you would have to have a pretty fucking wild mental problem to be have it save you from a rape sentence altogeher. Loss of control is punished to prevent you from losing it after all.

  • I would add that in many places, you will find absolutely no English signs or menus. I don't know how it is in Munich, but outside airports and central stations you are often SOL if you speak 0 German and don't have a way to translate text from images.

  • The main problem is control ig. On Signal, someone can ask for a code or passwords to log into your account or get your data. If you have your own solution, you can have physical security keys to verify yourself, making it impossible to give anything to anyone via the internet. You can also monitor logins and make logins on new, unauthorized devices impossible.

    Encrypting stuff is not really the hard part of keeping oblivious users safe. As far as that goes, they will be fine if they have people who know what they are doing use established, well audited implementations.
