  • I think it's brilliant in a larger artistic aesthetic sense, as an experience, but I fully agree that it should have been an hour longer to really tell the story to completion. I've always treated 2001 more as an audio-visual experience, though, so I don't really mind. The Arthur C. Clarke book exists for a more plot-based experience. But your criticism is totally valid.

  • I 100% agree, because the film spends ridiculously little time with actual characterization. A lot of time with really long "cinematic" shots, though.

  • Interstellar is just straightforwardly a worse version of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Now I kinda want to know of there's a older, Russian version of that, though.

    I just gave an example of someone doing precisely that. Read Descartes first three meditations. I won't say I agree with Descartes; I think his logic is flawed. But he does technically use logic to infer the existence of God. That's why I used Descartes as an example.

  • Literally René Descartes, arguably one of the most important mathematicians and philosophers in history, spends most of his meditations trying to prove the existence of God. Religious people can be very logical and believe in their religion for logical reasons, even if you and I disagree with those reasons.

  • Out of curiosity, why do you use Ghostery rather than uBlock Origin? It was quite controversial back in the day, but seems to be open source and stuff now. I still don't see any advantage over uBO, though, so I wonder what would move you to use it instead.

  • You don't even need higher end ear buds for replaceable cables anymore. Moondrop CHU 2 are 20-25 € and come with a replaceable cable. The DSP version comes with a nice usb-c cable.

    Just make sure to get them from an official retailer; Chinese stuff like this often sells returns on Amazon, non-specialized retailers, etc. Hifi retailers like linsoul, Hifigo, Shenzhen audio, are the only ones where you'll reliably get a working product. Otherwise the quality is quite good.

  • My Sennheiser HD600 have been basically indestructible for almost 10 years now. Other headphones have had minor issues, but the wired Sennheiser stuff seems to be incredibly well built. Highly recommend.

    Cons:

    • Kickstarter
    • only up-to 256 GB storage (my library is ≈ 550 GB)
    • low-res Bluetooth, only SBC support
    • mediocre op-amp, RT6863, only 61+61mW@32 Ohm, basically unusable for headphones
    • there's a lot of good competition, see Fiio's Echo Mini, Echo Nano, Disk, Qudelix-5K.

  • Fyi, Reaper and Bitwig both have excellent, native Linux support. If you're willing to re-learn a DAW, both of those are great choices. Reaper is by far the best mixing & mastering DAW out there, IMHO. Bitwig is great for composition and has awesome, intuitive modulation features, as well as great stock plugins and MPE support.

    This is coincidentally a symptom of dyslexia, so you are right to think of it as something innate, unfortunately. It's also why so many architects are dyslexic.

  • It's more recent idealogy, namely postmodernism. They genuinely deny the existence of universals in all respects. But I am yet to see a legitimate (philosophical) argument supporting that 🤷 seems more like a pop culture thing than real philosophy.
