  • If we don't allow Nazis because they are hateful and violent, why should we allow hateful and violent communists/socialists/anarchists?

    Is it the hate and violence we should ban? Why is a Nazi calling to kill non-whites radically worse than a communist calling for the death of non-communists? Both simple think violence and hate is perfectly justified over differences, real or perceived.

    And some of us libtard facists think the idea of killing people over any differences, is what is stupid and wrong, no matter what your identity, ideology or belief.

  • It's not weird, its' just that this is how cowards and aspiring despots deal with things. You don't address them, or let them be seen/heard, you silence them or shut them out. You certainly don't allow dialogue that might allow for understanding... we can't have that.

    Ironically one of the biggest draws for me, to reddit in the early days, and in the fediverse two years ago, was the notion that people can have differenting opinions and exchange them with civility and learn from each other. But I'm a big gay cishet transexual anti-zionist nazi pedo fascist centrist idiot, or so lemmy.ml users has been telling me the past few months.

  • they issue is that the lemmy.ml is the lemmy devs instance... and the devs are tankies themselves.

    A lot of people don't use lemmy specifically because of the devs politics. and are on other platforms like piefed.

    Personally I don't condemn products because of the actions/beliefs of their creators, former or present. I don't practice guilt/shame by association and I think doing so is incredibly toxic behavior. But I'm zionist scum for owning a Soda Stream anyway or something. Probably also for the fact I socialize/date jewish people and israelis regularly in my life.

  • My favorite part is pointing out that most israelis are not white westerners, but from other middle eastern countries who were fleeing persecution in those countries and are more arab than western in terms of ethnicity and history.

    But that doesn't fit the nice narrative that all Israelis are white colonlizer/invaders from europe or something. Literally never had it acknowledged once, just denied and told that it is zionist propaganda.

  • Professionally speaking? They should privately dis-invite the speakers or seminar leaders who make questionable appearances in the files, but not make a public hoopla over it. They probably have a ethics of conduct code that might have been demonstrably violated.

    But I have no idea what criteria they would be using to make those calls. For all we know maybe they have no codified ethics codes as an organization.

    My beef with it is the virtue signalling publicity. Making a big public stink about benefits who exactly? It's little more than grandstanding moralizing PR.

    the issue I'm addressing is the broader moral panic and the moral grandstanding that goes along with it that surrounds this whole thing, and pedophilia in general, or that these types of symbolic gestures are some form of justice for the crimes of Epstein and his trafficking associates.

    he had a broad network of various levels of social gatherings and sex parties. not all of them were pedo parties. the majority were not.

    the notion that anyone who ever interacted with him in anyway is a pedophile or pedophile supporter is an incredibly broad and stupid approach. there are various levels of participation and interact with him. he clearly had an inner circle, an outer circle, and then 10000s of tangential connections with various people. hopefully with more disclosure of the files who is who will become apparent.

    punish the guilty who committed crimes. not their associates. guilt by association is cognitive bias that seeks to punish innocent people for merely being in proximity to those who commit crimes.

    it's about culture. poor kids do great at school if they have parents who value education, or value education themselves. people who don't value education... do poorly at school.

  • because in the USA we hate teachers. it's really that stupid and simple. and we hate poor people even more than we hate teachers... and most public teachers are automatically poor people due to horrible wages.

    teachers are now viewed as professionals worth of respect. they are seen as losers who failed at life and deserve to be punished and hated for it. they are seen as inherently lazy for choosing it as a profession. teachers are public servants, and public servants are all leeches on society.

    it was this way growing up for me, and it's even worse today. and all our public policies and funding around education reflect this.

    our society loves to go on about education, but in practice is essentially anti-education.

    the last time the USA made public investments in education was post ww2, because of the Soviets. Then we rapidly clawed it all back during the 1980s and it's been in decline for 50 years now. we did that because we had an existential threat and were in competition with the Soviets. Once we 'won' we no longer had any need to care about education and we essentially have a two-tier system of seduction, one for the rich that is the best in the world, and one for everyone else that is on par developing nations.

    If you come here and got to spend a day in a rich school vs a poor school, your mind would be blown. One will be doing amateur rocketry, and the other can't even do basic arithmetic or reading.
