go away. you are a weirdo if you are reading this.

  • there are no qualifications for gun ownership in Nebraska.

only a 5 states require a license for a shot gun, in the form of a Firearms ID. They require no coursework on training.

Typically you only need to take a gun safety class if you are buying a handgun, and even then only a dozen states require that.

  • there is no test for 'safe gun owner'. most states don't even require a license if it's a shotgun. all you need is an state ID and a background check.

only five states require a gun license. 45 do not.

  • Yeah, cardiologists, physicians, and physical trainers... are all just full of reductive assumptions... lol

I mean I get it, people want to be lazy. They want to believe that drinking wine is and going for a walk is going to magically cure their lack of activity and poor diet. It won't.

The only thing that cures those things is activity, and good diet. Sadly people would rather throw up their hands than take on that burden. Hence why the health/wellness industry is so full of snake oil and miracle cures people pay a lot of money for... instead of just going for a proper run and eating healthy food.

  • It's not maximalist. It's reality.

If you want to be healthy, you need to put in serious work. 10 minutes walks won't cut it. Sorry that busts your bubble or whatever.

You are trying to say anything is better than nothing, and then using that as some sort of 'just do the bare minimum'.

The cardiologist association recommendation is 150 minutes a week of medium intensity, or 75 high intensity minutes. That's 5 days of hard work for 15m at threshold, or 5 days a week of 30m of aerobic intensity. That's zone 3 or higher, which is you can feel your heart pounding and you are sweating sweating.

a casual bike ride isn't aerobic activity, it's zone 1-2. a walk is zone 1, it's slightly above resting.

  • To the same effect, I’m bothered with how everyone in the new Odyssey movie looks way too pasty white for Mediterranean mariners. Was it really necessary to cast big names for the movie? Couldn’t they find anyone that fit those parts better?

They want to make money. Stars bring in general audiences. No name actors don't.

And plenty of Greek people are pasty white. I know several.

  • 40m on a bike is nothing. that's like walking 10minutes.

  • because it's not a real work out.

a real workout involves straining your heart and muscles so they are forced to become stronger to deal with the load. that is where the real health benefits come in. light exercise does none of that. all it really does it burn some extra calories. for light exercise to be effective it has to be endurance, as in hours and hours of it.

people may not like that fact, but it's how biology works. it's not exactly convenient.

  • except none of that has the health benefits of structured exercise. especially as you age.

    same with food.

  • The mayor of my city is actively campaigning for going back to 5 day full workweeks for all office workers, under the bullshit guise of 'support small business'. She's a corporate shrill and has pivoted to because she wants to run for higher office and needs their campaign donations.

No, the company that owns all the business downtown, are giant mega real estate corps. That's who you are trying to benefit. My own company is downsizing our lease to 33% of our pre-pandemic square footage, because it makes no sense and our productivity is through the roof compared to being stuck in a open-office plan with people distracting each other for 50% of the work day.

I work less, and I get way more done because my time is much more focused, and more gets documented. Unlike in-office where more than half my daily workload was invisible because it was face to face/verbal interactions that never got recognized because they were not digitally recorded.

  • They are all states with poor economies.

Any one with career opportunities leaves.

  • They think they are smarter though. Beacause Tiktok told them so.

  • Vermont is poor and mostly rural. It has seen poor economic growth the last decade and residents have been leaving the state in droves. It was gutted by the rising of AirBNB rentals and then the pandemic.

Most of the economy is just rich people going there to vacation, who have drastically shot up the cost of living, prices out the locals, just like Colorado and other outdoor recreation areas. A lot of the local places were also bought up my Vale, etc.

  • i can do you one better. i was in philosophy.

nothing more fun that the bitterness of various academics getting pissy about whose work is 'most essential' or 'primary' or 'pure' or 'foundational'.

best thing i did in life was leave academia and it's pissing contests of legitimacy. or worse, how much money they could bring it by wooing the donors. funny how a lot of academic pretension just boils down to who can get the most money.

  • yes. it's not a science anymore than painting is.

you can certainly make mathematical models and paint pictures of theoretical concepts though.

science is the method of empirical verification. math is about as empirical as metaphysics is.

  • theoretical physics is is a lot of pseudo science.

most of it is pure mathematics.

it's only science strictly, when it's hypothesis are verified by experimental evidence.

there are still particles in the standard model that are purely theoretical.
