were you part on an online forum where you talked about this and called yourself an incel?
being young and confused and angry at the world isn't a special unique thing dude, it's normal. hate to break it you but millions of tens of millions of people have read such books about how to pick up girls, they just forgot about or or didn't regard it as a big deal.
so much of what is fucked up about online culture is people hyperbolic their totally ordinary experiences into an 'identity' and them form a support ground around it where they turn it into a pathology about how the world is oppressing them because of 'who they are' when 'who they are' is just some stupid arbitrary bullshit they made up.
literally every dude and every woman has struggled in romantic relationships. nobody is unique in that. when I was in high school before internet shit widespread, everyone whined to each other in person about they couldn't get girls/boys they wanted an nobody liked them and kept trying to 'figure out' how to get to bang the people we wanted to bang. we just didn't do it online or think it made us special or different.
incel became part of the modern popular discourse in 2014 when Elliot Roger mass shooting and self identified as an incel. the concept has only been around a decade, though apparently self-identified incels started using online forums in 2004 or so.
this entire thread you've postured yourself as 'above me'.
I love it. Do they have a test for delusions of social superiority? How do you think you'd score on it? [
i have this other radical idea... maybe your real world experience isn't all that there is in the world... maybe other people experience the world differently?
and yeah there is no point to 'continue' when you can't acknowledge that your experience is inherently limited and flawed and is likely only shared with a tiny percentage of other people who are very similar to you. which is what is called in-group bias!
yeah I've heard this. Makes sense. I was a big buyer of DVDs myself back in the 2000s, but once streaming came along it was over.
I still have a couple dozen movies on blu ray and such, and people are total assholes about it asking me why I am so 'weird' owning physical media. Movie collecting doesn't get the cultural 'cool' of say, owning records on vinyl, and btw often the people who own vinyl are the same ones who give me shit about having physical media.... sigh
everything is streaming rights sales now, and you can't command a high price for it on a low budget movie, hence why most streaming services are full of cheap schlock and the high priced premium content moves from service to service ever other month.
Yeah, that's the point though, the schools/training was massively underenrolled.
if the failure rate is 50%, you need twice as many candidates to fill the jobs. more so if it's higher.
we also desperately need more medical staff, but nobody is scrambling to hire young men for nursing and other non-doctor medical roles. they are still predominantly marketed for women
because bluesky wants to be a walled garden. they still operate under the same metrics as every other social media platform because their value comes from keeping you on the platform as much and as long as possible and tracking everything you do on it.
they can't do that if you aren't logged in and views from external users aren't as valuable as logged in users.
mastodon doesn't care about any of that. it works off the principles of the open internet.
I wish they made more movies like this. But they don't.
It's kind of wild how wholesome many 2000 comedies were deep down. But the world changed and a lot of them were re evaluated a in the 2010s as being awful and terrible because they were given surface level analysis and turned into rage-bait for the 'love to be offended' crowd who often can't see beyond the surface of things.
2005 was the year Youtube was launched, 5 months after 40 Year old Virgin was released in theaters.
I disagree with the entire pop psychology industries existence. It's not personal, it's a moral social issue.
It's psychological junk food that destroys people's psychological health and turns them into self-help junkies. It's the equivalent of people believing that McDonald's is healthy food and they will lose weight and lower their cholesterol by consuming it.
that's like every relationship i've ever had. i'm not sure where people get these relationships where other people share their opinions in lock step with them.
everyone i know has different feelings on various issues.
right, it can't be EQ is a stupid theory with a flawed metric that is essentailly useless... apparently if that's the case they ALL OF PYCHOLOGY IS NONSENSE.
are you serious with this crap? typical lemmy poster, can't let the bone go and becomes a dog and starts making massive generalizations that society will collapse if their one pet peeve issue needs to be their into a hyperbolic one.
it's fine, you can call me lazy, tell me i have low EQ, whatever makes you feel better about yourself man. The fact of the matter is EQ isn't taken seriously by psychologists and it's become yet another therapy-speak term, but hey, i'm clearly a gas-lighting narcissist, right?
liberal/left can't seen to understand why they keep losing... but then makes no legit effort to like have a actionable plan for any of their political goals.
And if you suggest such actions/plan/pragmatic thinking, you're basically voted off the liberal 'happy think only' island.
I've been left-wing I feel like for 25 years, but the entire time I left the politics was moving away from me. As much as the right parodies the left as being elitist and out of touch and delusional... it's like the left now actively embraces that vision of themselves and actively pursues it.
yeah, and it's easy enough to block them with the right front end and have most of your expereince here be less full of insane brainrot.
There are some really cool folks and communities that actually have really cool and positive posts. But it is hard to find with all the slop and ragebait that many folks, and new users, seem to propagate.
miserable folks want everyone else to be as miserable or more miserable than them. they can't abide anyone enjoying anything.
It's so funny, I bought a Switch 2 recently, and the amount of vitriolic HATE i get for mentioning that I love and it's great is insane.
apparently unless I build my own PC from dumpster parts and run a hyper specific distro and only run steam linux games, I'm some sort of traitor and horrible ignorant fool. There can't ever be a legit reason to like just want to play fun games w/o being an insufferable superiority twat about it. and anything less than that is 'boot licking' or me being a nazi lover or something.
Everything on here has to be politicized to an absurd extreme, because no fun and happiness is allowed as long as the State of Israel exists, or something.
