Sure it has issues, but the idea of having this prototype ship and going out there into the unknown is super cool. It has solid enough acting, especially by Scott Bacula and Connor Trinneer, with good support from John Billingsly and Linda Park. The rest of the main cast can be hit or miss, although the writing can also be blamed for that a lot of the time, you can only work with what you got. As usual Jeffrey Combs is all over this, making it a true Star Trek show. The stories can be very much hit or miss as well, but it has some excellent stuff in there.

I feel like ENT has a lot of good with the bad and is worth a watch for sure.

Loch Ness is fucking big and holds around 7500000 m3 of water and while no such whiskey barrel truck exists, a large tanker truck can hold around 40m3 of liquid. Let's say it's a super strong whiskey of 60% alcohol content by volume, that leaves us with 24m3 alcohol for the whole lake. That's an alcohol percentage of 0.00032% for the lake. To put that into context, most foods contain a certain amount of alcohol. Beer for example can contain up to 0.5% of alcohol and still be labeled alcohol free. Something like a burger roll might contain over 1% alcohol, an overripe banana might be around 0.5%. So the amount of alcohol in the lake is basically nothing and would be hard to detect even with proper equipment. Therefor the non-existent monster would not have gotten drunk from drinking some of the lake water.

Since we clearly see the monster being drunk af, we must consider another scenario. I would speculate the truck was actually intact when it hit the water. The monster happened to be nearby and heard or felt the impact (does the monster have ears? We do not know). Upon reaching the truck, the monster proceeded to pick it up and drink it shot-gun style. He got so drunk, he forgot to crush the truck on his forehead and just dropped it on the bank.

I further postulate that alcohol isn't a part of the natural environment around the loch and thus the creature has somehow acquired the taste for the drink from humans. A chemical dependency might have formed, leading to severely altered behavior for the creature. It is my hypothesis the creature not only caused the crash of the truck, but has done so more often in the past and will continue to do so in the future.

Further investigation shows the route for the truck makes no sense and went out of its way to drive at that exact road along the loch. The company that owns and operates the truck hasn't altered this inefficient route, even though many such accidents occured. My theory is they allow these incidents to happen because the media attention from these incidents works in favor of the company. Your honor I respectfully submit my statement as evidence of wrong doing on part of the company. They knowingly and willingly allowed the Loch Ness monster to form this alcohol dependency, therefor indirectly causing the accidents and risking the life and well being of my client, the truck driver!

This is cool, good to see you wanting to learn and experiment with stuff. I would recommend you study on the different aspects of current and past OSes. Especially simpler older OSes can give you a lot of insight into what an OS is, what components it has and how those tie together. What you currently have I would describe more as a cool little UEFI demo program and less of an OS. But it's a great start to build out from.

I would recommend trying to decouple software from hardware. Currently your code is heavily tied to hardware, which is fine in a test environment, but can easily break if the environment is different. Another aspect I would recommend you do a deep dive into is task schedulars. Especially looking at early types like the one from Windows 3.1 compared to the one from Windows 95. These are often used as case studies in schools, because they are easy to understand and offer similar but different approaches.

Personally I can also recommend trying to develop your OS for a simpler chip. That puts constraints on the project, which both limits the scope and also gives you challenges because of those limits. But that might be my personal bias, as I once developed a full fledged OS for the Intel 8051 as part of my university studies. This was back in the olden days tho, these days I would probably use something like an ESP8266 or ESP32.

Reminds me of the first time I saw Sin and Cos lookup tables being used in early 3D gaming. The computers could calculate those just fine, especially with a math co-processor. But for 3D gaming it would be too slow to get a good framerate. So lookup tables were used to greatly improve the speed.

Back on those days all sort of neat tricks like that would be used. Often done as little demo programs that were very impressive. Before the internet it was hard to look up something like that and the latest and greatest tricks weren't written in books yet. So often little code snippets and demo programs would be shared amongst programmers using the sneakernet, so we could all learn and get better.

I know this is a meme saying this on Lemmy, but my go to is now and always has been beans and toast. It's cheap, easy to make and when it's warm it's almost like a real meal. Yeah I was surprised to learn as well that a lot of trees grown for lumber only live for 15-30 years depending on the species. At some point it just won't grow as fast anymore and it's better to cut it down and replace it with a new tree that can grow fast again. Some might take longer, but that increases the price a lot, so the demand for those is shorter.

The average lifespan of trees is also relatively short in relation to their maximum age. A tree takes up a lot of room, not just in terms of size, but also in terms of access to the sunlight and nutrients. So the big trees we see are the survivors, for each of those probably at least 100 smaller trees didn't make it. Trees can also easily die due to disease, infestations or other mishaps. Some trees like elm could live a very long life, but depending on the region usually don't make it past 100 because the chance they get a disease or fungus that kills them within that time.

They should fight fire with fire. Do double of all the tariffs the US does and don't ever give them up ever. Don't take any concession, as any time anyone does, Trump does the Goofy meme and says: "I'll fucking do it again". There's no talking to these people, they will only respond to pressure. Tariffs can be renegotiated after the next elections and my suggestion would be for those elections to be held sooner than planned. Trump needs to go, that's the only way for anything to ever be fixed.
