  • The one I live in: Finland

    The only thing I don't like is the short summer and long winter but I try and convince myself that it's the 4 distinctive seasons and the shitty winter that makes me truly appreciate summer. It's also good for the human character which probably partly explains why we've been voted the happiest country in the world who knows how many years in a row. It may be less true now but it's still in our genes; in the past you better be nice to your neighbour because once the winter comes and food runs out, your life may depend on them.

    So in other words; in the past such men would have taken their frustration to the streets. Gathering into groups of other such men and causing trouble, kicking grannies and such. Nowdays they instead retreat into their mom's basements smoking weed, playing video games and watching porn.

  • That's a bit cynical take. In many countries, including mine, there are dedicate bins for plastic waste which is the majority of waste from your typical household. It's all being recycled into new products, not being shipped anywhere. Also, when it comes to plastic bottles for example, close to 100% of them are returned and recycled into new bottles. I've got a tiny-ass bin for the stuff that ends up in landfill because I separate and recycle it all as does most other people.

    EDIT: Nevermind then. It's all apparently dumped into the ocean. Sorry about the attempt in some positivity.

  • Buying a new car never really made sense to me even when you could afford it. 2 - 3 year old model is effectively brand new but a lot cheaper. Why pay more if you can pay less?

  • I'm not saying there shouldn't be consequences for someone who is spreading these pictures with the intention to cause harm to someone's reputation but it's incredibly naive to think that the justice system is going to stop deepfakes when it can't even prevent bike theft. 12 year olds are making these with their smartphones. The technology is extremely accessible and easy to use and that is not going to change. I'm sorry but you're not putting the toothpaste back into the tube. Wait a few years and you can generate photorealistic porn videos of anyone you want.

  • I'm not saying it's not a bad thing but it's inevitable. The problem will just be getting worse and there's no stopping it. It's something we're just going to need to accept as a new normal. If we can deal with living under the constant threat of nuclear armageddon then I think we can live with fake nudes aswell.

  • Thanks. There's plenty of instructions on how to do it but in my case the biggest issue would probably be sourcing a new Finnish keyboard for it

  • I'm using external keyboard on my macbook because the letter i is not working and replacing the keyboard means completely gutting the thing and ripping the old one out by force as it's locked in place with plastic rivets.
