  • I can't speak for the pro series. I had as Pixel 1 that was very good.

But then for cost and headphone jack reasons I switched to the a series when my Pixel 1 died. Both I and friends and family have had various Pixel 'a' series phones, and we've all seen the quality get progressively worse. Batteries, gyros, cameras, screens, you name it. I wouldn't recommend that specific line of phones.

  • I don't think it even needs to get that complicated.

Until they issue a patch you can just open the Amazon app from the home screen. It only does the affiliate nonsense when you launch it from the app list.

Also, you can disable the Smart Feed app. That apparently fixes it too.

  • From reading the article, the conclusion right now is that this isn't a conscious act by Motorola.

My guess is they used an open source library in their Smart Feed app that has been poisoned with an affiliate link injection. Either that or someone working at Motorola slipped the code in and their quality control process missed it.

Neither one of those is a good look for Motorola. But it probably isn't as bad as the headline makes it sounds.

On a side note, I ditched the increasingly shoddy Pixel a series for a mid-level Motorola phone a couple of years ago and haven't looked back.

  • Data: "Bite my dull grey ass!"

Tasha Yar: "I already did, babe 😏😘"

  • Why are you so obsessed with these canal death stories?

  • Based on where things are currently heading, that's looking unlikely (which is probably why you used the word 'might'). If it's a three-way battle between Bercerra, Steyer, and Hilton for two slots in the final race, there will be a Democrat option. So support will galvanize behind that candidate between June and November.

Trump's endorsement of Hilton was a huge misstep. Is he have kept quiet there's a good chance Hilton and that LA Sheriff - both Republicans - would have finished in the top two spots, because of the Democrat vote being so fragmented. But he couldn't keep his mouth shut, so all the conservatives dutifully fell into line behind Trump's preferred candidate, and in doing so scuppered the other guy's campaign and opened the door to a Democrat.

  • Fine, just as long as they contain all of it in an "AI Slop" section.

  • This is what happens when you let the oil industry and their lobbyists have unfettered control of the narrative and legislation .You get a huge number of politicians falling into their pockets, and progress is stymied at every turn.

It's actually kind of surprising America has made the limited progress on EVs that we have. But it's nowhere near enough. And now we are paying the piper.

  • Or they're twisting themselves in mental knots, while living deep in denial.

  • Yup. Very soon the magical flying pigs that fart rainbows will swoop down and deliver them to the true believers! Any day now!

  • Dollar store reddit, now with extra AI crap? Oooooh..... Sounds fucking terrible!

  • I don't have a strong preference. I'm just waiting for the Star Trek Wars, followed by the Star Wars Trek (when Star Trek wins the war and Star Wars is sent into exile).

(Futurama reference, for those who didn't know.)

  • Oh, fair enough.

  • Regular Tesla drivers who bought their vehicle several years ago, before Musk showed very clear signs of being a Nazi POS? Yeah I have some sympathy for them.

But Cybertruck users knew exactly who they were buying from. They deserve no sympathy.

  • Did they rename him 'Mask The Pain Marco'?

  • She has that boomer mentality, so I know what you mean. But she was born in 1943, so she's technically not a boomer. She's in the silent generation. That makes it even worse!

Eighty-fucking-two years old and writing nasty letters to little kids who bring up very reasonable requests! The old ghoul should be sitting in front of a TV watching soap operas and playing mahjong or whatever, not shuffling around in Congress 'representing' people.

  • I'm not sure how practical that is (seems like it would be more complicated than that). But if something like that could be done it would be great.

Conservatives want to try starving vulnerable Californians? Without our revenue dozens of red states will start starving. Would be funny seeing this administration shoot itself in the foot yet again.

  • While very different in some ways, some parallels between the AI-driven layoffs and the offshore outsourcing layoffs of the mid-2000s are striking.

Ultimately both scenarios were/are driven by corporate greed. And it looks like the AI one is backfiring for many of the same reasons as the offshore one.

They are replacing experienced staff who have strong critical thinking abilities and hands-on knowledge, and the replacements lack the institutional knowledge and the ability to look at the big picture, and they substitute speed for methodological discernment.

    Time is cyclical.

  • Yeah, he was a good contributor. Shame he's inactive now.
