  • The whole moderate thing was an attempt to appeal to Republican voters. They live in a personality cult echo chamber now, it would serve no purpose except catering to ghost. The fact that they are still thinking within a system that has been fundamentally corrupted is why they are doomed to failure.

  • Does Reddit stock pay dividends or offer shareholder voting? Is most of it at least hell by their owners, giving at least a financial interest to having its value affected? Then it might as well be Yet Another Crypto Scam, in which case it isn't really going to affect Reddit because they've probably already cashed out.

    What people don't realize is that the stock market is largely based off of on speculation on who's going to buy or sell when, the articles that tie it directly to how the company performing are basically fortune tellers either telling their customers what they want to hear or catering to their customers by manipulating how their readers will behave.

    People use belief in the value of money to illustrate how crypto has value. The stock market is a far better analogy, and there are plenty of confidence scams to go along with it as well.

  • Technically, I can see where you are right, but in practice, you have one single party to choose from all the same, with a heavy cultural divided determining which party that is for you.

    I would focus more criticism as to why there aren't more than two parties in the US government than fighting over a word definition that just absconds the real problem.

    Both parties are not the same, but it is still a uniparty. Worst of all, it is one where the other side of the country has been conditioned for the same: choose what they believe to be the depravity and downfall of their way of life, or the only other option.

    This is why in other countries we have more than two parties, and why the ones that are Heritage Foundation funded influence operations want to change this.

  • I don't know, but my bot sense tingles a lot less in Lemmy. There also isn't a hidden penalization score that can be associated to accounts like on Reddit, what you see is what you get. Almost no backend shenanigans, not even shadow bans. If only it didn't hide downvote information like on Reddit.

  • Holy shit, they are finally doing something about karmawhores! Not in a particular effective way, they can just alt themselves to kingdom come, but they are doing it.

    It was sometimes very telling where those mods were participating in, and given that they've also recently implemented features to make that more difficult (anonymized moderator replies, hidden mod lists, hidden user histories) but haven't really addressed the alt issue, it may have to do more with those embarrassments. Bye bye to the last vestiges of self-incrimination Reddit provided for.

  • Apparently they are saying that since he was close to a trans person (presumably the roommate who helped authorities identify his Discord messages) that it doesn't matter. Just look at the conservative sub on reddit, the one moderated by the guy who enjoys running psyops with the most narcissistic psychopaths in Eve Online. I seriously believe idiots are deliberately being led by the most narcissistic psychopaths in the nation, and the reason Eve Online is such a tell is because it attracts them in droves, specially the ones who've made their leisure time be about moderating its material and enjoying carrying out psyops against people. It's what money attracts because in their world view everything is arguable - it's just a matter of skill, with objective facts being shit to them.

    Don't worry, reddit has made sure to hide their comment history and the subs they moderate, so hell if you will ever know or be able to verify.

  • I mean seriously, things are so bad that's the least worrying part. It's not like his base won't be easily convinced not to care, between his prostitutes, the Russian peepee scandal, "touch them by the pussy", what he did with his beauty pageants, what he has done with Ghislaine Maxwell, what he has said about his own daughter. His base just does not care, all the grandstanding was all fake.

    He is still going strong with his plans regarding Greenland and Canada, and what he has done with Venezuela is foreboding because it normalizes doing it more and with further steps. The steps he is taking to make the US fascist are far worrying, there's no shortage of dictators who are completely and utterly detestable yet nothing can be done because they rule in a fascist country. You need to be able to prosecute him to make him having trafficked children for sex matter.

  • It could be why it's being done, because SSN are being used inappropriately. Potential leaks like this will force banks and other entities to begin making account access more difficult, and this will make it from difficult to next to impossible for a large number of seniors, those who've saved the most and have the biggest accounts, to access it. This would happen even if it was done in a two year controlled manner.
