  • Its subscription is 4 dollars cheaper, though!

  • Unpopular opinion, but every nascent industry looks like a bubble. What makes it a bubble is if and when it pops. It anything, LLM AI might deflate and stabilize, but it's also here to stay. In that case, what pops NVIDIA is when they can't expand any more and they go against geopolitical interests that begin stealing and making viable alternatives for the price.

  • And that is relevant to the thread because ... ? I don't know, ദ്ദി ? If you are trying to make an objective evaluation of their products, you could not make seem any more of a smear attempt by replying in this thread out-of-context.

  • I can't even imagine the fundamentally flawed view of the world to think the best way to solve an issue like this is to first go through a public forum.

Pretty sure I've made my opinion clear. Well, at least before you were offended by a slight comment and tried to and successfully removed the comment with the context. So much for public forums then, huh. The page has a direct way of contacting them through email for more sensitive issues like this, you are the one choosing to skip the option.

EDIT: ... Yes, should have been clear with the edit I made, although it was a description that aptly applied to your behavior and that of the people I criticized. Meanwhile you get off ranting "if you’d read the damn post" and that's apparently hunky dory. Yeah, no, sometimes mod's biases are quite clear, and with these sort of biases you have people downvoting with no comment history or activity whatsoever. Just saying, some people want to watch the world burn bridges.

Because mod or alt mod removed it:

You mean the post that literally says otherwise and that the quote from OP I had in my original comment agreed with?

Thanks, I appreciate you also replying in good faith. I don’t think this is likely to be a topic we’ll be able to come to alignment on within a community thread. We’re unfortunately in a world where it’s hard to have nuanced discussion, even if we preemptively agree on 95% of topics and want to discuss the remaining 5%, in a public forum.

perhaps it is indeed best to let it rest for now. i’ll certainly sleep on it now!

I'll excuse the rest of the comment, but check out the modlogs if you want to do so. Guess rule 3 is enforced directionally.

  • Did the author bother contacting them first before treating them like utter garbage and trying to rile up a public lynch mob? Just because something is well known to you doesn't make it well known to everyone. If there are no alternatives with the feature set you are looking for, then sometimes you even have to overlook questionable authors, sort of like Lemmy. If it's open source and has a license that allows forks, it doesn't matter that much.

You use open source because of functionality. It didn't used to be too long ago when people bothered to prove other people wrong through example instead of persecution. If you never convince people they are wrong, you just favor them creating and being in as much of an echo chamber as yourself. Even when they can't be convinced, there are other people listening to the conversation.

We support open source software (and hardware), and partner with developers and maintainers across the ecosystem. We deliberately create a big tent, because we want open source software to win. We don’t partner based on individuals’ or organizations’ beliefs, values, or political stances outside of their alignment with us on increasing the adoption of open source software.

Even just from looking at it from a practical standpoint, it would sink just about any company if they have to go full FBI investigation for every single member. If you agree with OP so much, then why do you not agree with OP?

perhaps it is indeed best to let it rest for now. i’ll certainly sleep on it now!

  • Honestly, it isn't the AI so much as it is the suspension that rules that apply to us should also apply to AI. They are barely legal companies getting away with murder due to the residual power of a corrupt empire in decline.

  • To the Trump admin it won't matter if the reason to invoke it is real or fake. The federal government is corrupt to the core and using the shutdown to prevent congress from losing the MAGA majority until the insurrection clause is invoked. There is no ideal solution, it's just that if you aim for the king, you best not miss.

The MAGA base is not suddenly going to be turned around and convinced unless you are able to puncture their Sinclair echo chambers, the federal is increasingly going to deny funding to Democratic states, SCOTUS is still going to overturn any impediments federal judges try to throw at Trump, ICE is still going to be ignoring any and all laws since they know they get to eat pardon cake if it ever becomes an issue, ICE is still going to get the biggest slice of the federal budget ... "Drawing first blood", you lose. Hoping a system rotten to the core in all three branches of government turns around and becomes semifunctional when no matter what you will still have Republicans and MAGA at the end of whatever solution comes up, you don't lose, but at a cost that's going to be comparable or greater than losing.

  • Their incompetence is as mindboggling as how they are getting away with it.

  • I've criticized the sort of personal information that is allowed to be managed by banking entities in the cases of Accidental Americans, where people who have nothing to do with America except that they were born in the US have their data handled by private entities to be passed onto governments they've never been in. Public entities that should handle and be responsible for it in their actual home countries want to wash their hands off from them and there's too much money against too small of a minority for anyone to care about their rights. It doesn't matter how banks have consistently proven that they or their staff can act criminally, either.

At least here, it affects a lot more people so it will likely bring in the change and reform it needs, even if the sensitivity of this data is significantly less.

Gonna have to say, this guy is definitely gonna be screwed by this:

  • This is why the ancient empires fell, now amplified by modern globalized technology at the worst possible time in regards to global disasters on a countdown. I hope they rot in their bunkers when all is finished. The irony is that no matter how self-sustaining they build them, they don't seem to realize that they are bringing the most destructive aspect into them - themselves.

  • I'm literally hearing Catholic faith ministers in Europe on the radio speak about Charlie Kirk as if he was some sort of religious icon, when normally they wouldn't care less about local pop culture figures in other countries who weren't even Catholic.

I suspect that whatever succeeded Cambridge Analytica and is getting financed by the oligarchs now toppling the US government has now also moved on from just targeting influencers online to more traditional influencers that will freely spread their whitewashed portrayal on their mediums. They sort of have to do this because, like Russia discovered as they began their war with Ukraine and Trump did when COVID happened during his first term, their foreign propaganda breaks apart when they have been artificially imposed on local talking with very different perspectives - they have to normalize the talking points on those most vulnerable yet most influential so that they are all brainwashed in generally the same way and spread the same emotionally based drivel filled with half truths and outright lies.

  • And this is how you get Tang ping movements.

  • Trump's "plan" is too choose whatever is best for him psychotically and amorally. He's not where he is right now because he had a plan, but because as you put it, the path was laid for him. It became clear with the drastic changes and statements he began his administration with. A destination was presented to him, and he's tried to follow the path to it with the indications he has been given. Sometimes, he has even blurted out the "landmarks" prematurely, like his comments on Greenland and Canada.

He's just at a point he realizes he can already exploit, which probably seems like a good option to him since some of the directions he has received aren't working out that well for him.

  • People think he rambles a lot, but it has a purpose to it. What I'm worried about is that after meeting with the Project 2025 guy, that rambling might be receiving some calibration as well as a long series of other meetings to see if they go a new route.

I don't think he is really that ill simply because JD Vance would have been picking up a lot more of the slack if that were the case to position himself as the new president.

Then there's also the possibility that he is part of the caste of the country that does actually benefit from having no government oversight or presence during a shutdown. It makes people and groups that much more dependent on the private market alternatives these oligarchs own.

Maybe he isn't making any comments because this is where he wants to be right now. He still controls ICE, the execute and the supreme court can still continue reshaping the US, and he's in a point where he has essentially just hit the pause button on any changes in congress until he can decide how to revert and influence that. He's at the point where people who protest the extended shutdown can be incarcerated as the "radical left" "homegrowns" for whom the shutdown helps prevent any recourse as well, he's putting any loyalist he can into ICE and it has a bigger budget than the rest of the military, he's plunging and farming the value of the US economy which he and his oligarch friends can weather and later buy up on the low. It seems like he might have settled for this as a win condition, so he's no longer making appearances to push things into other agendas for now.

States need to step up if the government remains shut down, this is the perfect opportunity and excuse for them.

  • You just need to identify where the edges are and step outside of your own bubble into the sort of echo chamber they exist in. Not that they deliberately avoid making it easy.
