I know it's comfortable to sit and call anything slightly right of ultra socialism as 'right wing' but a spectrum exists.
To conflate republican evangelical dominionist Christians with liberals is peak hubris.
There is a saying: 'when you're a hammer, every problem is a nail'. When you reduce everything to class warfare you're not engaging in an effective discourse to reduce harm in the world. You're just pontificating on the merits of socialism, which yea, we all agree are neat. But so what? You think folding everyone else into a basket gives you credence or helps the discourse in any way?
I've received way more bitter and raged out responses here than I've ever received on Reddit for very lukewarm vanilla takes. I'm not saying Lemmy is full of extremists but there is a user base here that is all or nothing. My guess is it's age related though.
It's the only options we got in a FPTP. If you think not participating absolves you of any moral agency then you are just naive. I never said the democrats were champions of trans issues. I said steps were being taken in the right direction. They were very small steps, but it was something. Democracy demands vigilance and active participation. Its only as strong as it's participating individuals. The same goes for any other polity, so don't delude yourself in thinking that we are immune to corruption in any alternate system either.
You seem to be under the false impression that I am here to defend the Democratic party. Let me dispel any notion of that: I am not. Two things can be true at the same time: the democrats can suck and the Republicans want to drag us to hell. I dont know what the answer is tbh. My goal is to minimize harm in a FPTP system. I only have so many options in front of me. Not participating is also a moral choice, but a moral choice that carries serious consequences. It doesn't matter anyway. Democracy is way past us at this point if the next four years are what I expect.
Well. If the most ardest proponents can't hold it to the fire then how are the rest of us normies supposed to come on board? Clearly there is a disconnect between praxis and ideology
I got banned simply for stating that China is a centrally planned economy. Is that a bannable of fence nin your view despite it being the main description on Wikipedia and among most economists?
