I will give massive props to Riddley for taking a big risk and pushing into a new direction. I suspect massive meddling by the studios. Prometheus had a lot of interesting concepts that just never got a chance to be fleshed out fully. My guess Covenant was going to be the response to that but something happened between the two movies because Covenant is completely divorced thematically and story wise from Prometheus. I'm sorry Riddley never got a chance to live out this interesting new universe.
It's real. Just because tech bros and magats align sometimes there is still a discrepancy between the two. At the end of the day, the Maga tech bros are just higher up the ladder from the general Maga folks. In other words: there's always bigger fish.
I think that's what RS was trying to do with the franchise by taking it in a new direction. He's a risk taker and always wants to try something new so I applaud him for an least trying with Prometheus despite the flat execution. Oh well
This movie seems to get a lot of love for some reason. I understand the bar was set really low by Prometheus and Covenant but that's not an excuse.
Romulus is just a collection of greatest hits from all the previous movies. None of the beats were new or original. Not a single protagonist or element added to the story in a meaningful way. None of the main characters are memorable in the slightest (compare to the phenomenal characters in Alien or Aliens). It was just so...bland
Nothing wrong with metaphors.... Until they are so dull and ridiculous as if thought up by a sixth grader doing a lit assignment. Snowpiercer is that. That's all it is. There is nothing profound on insightful or interesting or new. That's all it is: the embodiment of a really dull metaphor. Just my opinion of course.

I agree with all of this. However, and I could be wrong, my understanding of classic liberalism is that it was never directly opposed to regulation or social services. My initial understanding is that it's by necessity tied to free markets and private property.
We don't have to have an argument over it. It's ok to have a conversation. I'm familiar with the 'liberals are right wing' talking point.

You're right, it IS a semantic discussion, but clearly the implication is that liberalism is on par with being right wing. So, nonetheless, a semantic relabeling which is not devoid of consequences.

I think my issue is with the usage of the phrase "right wing" because we need something scathing to label liberals. It doesn't really contribute anything to the discourse except create layers of exclusion.
Liberalism, broadly, is not interested in supporting or enabling hierarchies. The only thing they share in common with right wing conservatism is the ownership of private property -but that's it. So lumping them all in the same bucket isn't doing much for anyone except creating more exclusion at the risk of pushing forward socialist policies. The reality is liberals are probably more likely to favor equality, even if it's just ideological. Shouldn't we strive to bring more people on board and build bridges rather than continue this bizarre war of artrition?
