  • I don't know why Nvidia is mentioned at all, except the hardware. That's cool that this person found the number, but Nvidia didn't do anything except employ them once upon a time and make a product that does a thing. It's not justified to celebrate the maker of a stove when a soup kitchen feeds everyone.

    This is a win for Luke and GIMPS in general, and I'm happy for them.

  • Yeah, I think your overall assessment is probably good. Fans might be a little more, but they're not $30 Noctuas. I probably wouldn't go over $600.

    That would put the GPU cost at about half the cost of the rest of the machine, which seems pretty reasonable to me. You can get storage for cheap at Christmas.

  • Save yourself some money and privacy, and just learn about the Bristol Stool Scale for free (which is all this thing is using).

    This is just a camera connected to some LLM that tells you if your poop is a healthy shape or color. Unless this thing is sampling your stool, it's not going to tell you anything you can't figure out with your own eyes. It isn't going to be diagnosing your vitamin deficiencies or catch early signs of colon cancer.

    Or you could just eat healthily and take a good look at your prize logs before you flush. One doesn't need a piece of tech to determine whether you should have eaten that week-old meal you left hiding in the back of the fridge.

    Even the author agrees.

    ETA: Also, if you have the money to spend on this, go buy a nice bidet. Better use of your money.

  • I'm still happy to use and pay for BitWarden. All I see are KeePass fanbois trying to throw shade at a company they don't like.

    And KeePass is great, too, but it isn't going to be for everyone, and that's not an indictment of its quality or utility.

    This is a prime case of hindsight. Dems did not have the benefit of future sight to know that a 40 year precedent would be overturned with such specious reasoning. We can whine all we want about what Congress should have done, but that's because we live in the timeline where SCOTUS has been revealed to be wholly rotten.

    Either way, I can argue with Democrats at a future time, but Republicans will find glee ignoring us plebs, so I don't really see the point moaning about it now—as if there's some viable alternative three weeks from the election.

    Ignore the polls. Know what's at stake, like judicial reform, LGBTQ rights, climate action, women's rights, etc.

    This is why it's so vital to vote. Trump nominated (and got elected) six of the seventeen Fifth Circuit members, the most of any president from Reagan onward for that particular court. GW Bush and Reagan nominated five combined.

    The president we elect will get to essentially decide who gets to be in which federal court. So much is at stake, as the judiciary threatens to rot from the top down.
