  • I can easily. What kind of environment do you have around? City, suburban, rural? Woods, plains, desert?

    5 universal skills would be: navigation, hazard detection, problem assesment and solving, self reliance, physical endurance.

  • Yes, over time one or more specializations will naturally emerge. But even then time should still be spent on other kinds of experiences and knowledge. A person who only knows one thing is both helpless in life, and a rather booring person. Always at least experiment with new things so if you need them in the future you aren't completely clueless.

  • screen time is just a limit on time to learn if the kid is using it for the right purposes

    There is much learning to be had out in the real world also. A balance of the two is important. Limits should be in place if the kid naturally spends too much time on one or the other.

    "finish your plate" I was never told that as a kid and I devour anything that is given to me

    If you did it on your own, why would anyone ever tell you to do it?

    Absolutely!A competitive product isn't the problem. It's the fact that they're intentionally pricing the cars below cost, loosing money on every vehicle. Once there's no real competition, they can leverage that market monopoly to to gain others, or simply increase prices well beyond what they naturally would be. Just like Amazon did with diapers and other markets.

  • It's not. They aren't doing it for charity.It's just like when Amazon sold diapers at a loss. Once all the competition is gone, and China has the global monopoly they want, they'll use it to inflate prices even higher, or for leverage on other markets.

  • Not to the same degree, or with the same goals.US subsidies are simply about corporate profits. China's are about over-producing and lowering prices to incentivize global adoption.

    Forks and knives are both silverware, but very different.

  • Not quite. These aren't "free speech" rules.

    If a company, organization, or community doesn't want to have certain kinds speech, they can remove anything they don't like. Disney can't be required to host comments about how Mr. Wheeler was right to drive on the sidewalk killing people. They couldn't be sued for it if they did. But that's already included in 230.

    The only important thing that's changed between the mid '90s and now, is that sites actively select and push user created speech onto people who didn't choose to see it. Speech that wasn't from a community or user they choose to follow. If that speach leads to harmful behaviour, then sites should be able to be held accountable for the harms.

    That's all I'm saying. Promoting user content is fundamentally different than hosting it. Hosting needs to be protected as it has been. Promoting does carry a new level of responsibility. Censorship (when not the government) is still well within an organization's rights.

  • Section 230 needs an update. It needs to be made clear that hosing speech is not a liability."Recommending" speech with a black box algorithm that the user can't control or select IS a liability.

    What is your opinion of someone who is 26 and still wears a High School uniform in public?

  • I'm the wrong person to ask. I think it's odd when anyone wears any uniform outside of actively working a job that requires it. That would include kids wearing school uniforms outside of school.

    I think it's weird how many people in the gym wear the same kind of clothes.

    So is it odd? YesIs it common enough to not matter? YesShould you care what I think? No

  • It's not 1990 anymore. Almost everyone is a gamer these days.It's a bigger industry than the global movie box office.You have no idea how much work goes into being really good at a game.
