  • There's a cyberpunk novel called Feed in which some teenager got a trendy Nike tattoo that would force him to say "Nike" in every sentence. I think that's the next step in our deliberate effort to pay for the privilege of branding ourselves.

  • That should be illegal, it's like using counterfeit cash that only needs to fool your server long enough until you're out of the restaurant.

  • Tuvix didn't ask to be born, contributed to the Voyager, and pleaded for his life. She was a monster!

  • TBBT can be an okay show if you don't mind the overused surface level nerd culture references, casual misogyny, and Elon Musk's appearance. Other than that it can be a guilty pleasure of mine.

  • We're so fucked then.

  • It works remarkably well for a lot of things if you put a little effort into it. Depending on the distro, you might have a little more trouble trying to fix something. For my use case it can do gaming, CAD, office work, and some light programming just fine with some quirks and tradeoffs. Lemmy in general is a good place to ask troubleshooting questions too

  • This. There are too many loopholes and glaring problems written into the very code of the government that allows two parties to hold power and not represent the will of the people in a balanced way. The Constitution needs a heavy overhaul for the needs and challenges of the 21st century and beyond. The founding fathers also didn't want a single document to stay stagnant in perpetuity.

  • In my neck of the woods onigiris were redubbed as "popcorn balls".

  • That's okay. Bigotry, ignorance, and a short memory in the general public will make sure they bounce back 4 to 8 years after being ousted nowadays.

  • The closest thing we'll see for that kind of legislation is when BYD inevitably makes it to the US. Even then they might word it to say all data traffic from cars would have to go to US servers. These piece of shit politicians work for the data harvesting ghouls, after all.

  • I'd have preferred something closer to TNG or DS9 in tone. They don't need to make Star Trek into a comedy series.

  • Currently suffering through the pain of a programmer leaving a year ago and seemingly no one inherited his knowledge of the stuff he was working on for one of my projects. It was also the fault of other departments for delaying my work for even longer but they don't care. It's agony having to ask around the office for someone who might actually have the info I need.

  • Too late. He was already immortal.

  • The best you can do is not buy a car until he's gone. The tariffs would go to his grubby little dip shit hands anyway. Dont let him have any tax revenue if you can help it.

  • Now the real question is can they keep the seat after the next election cycle and beyond? Can Democrats deliver on things and hammer the point home to their constituents so there can be a cultural shift that prioritizes improving things over conservative ideology? If conservatism can't be uprooted in the community it'll only let Republicans back in as soon as the threat of Trump is over.

  • He's likely still loyal to Trump despite all this.

  • With the exception of the Gulf War, America hasn't been able to win one since WWII. America's so confident in the tech it's developed that its strategists can't figure out an end game to any conflict they've dragged the military into. Dumping money into the defense industry isn't the same as having an effective fighting force if its soldiers are demoralized with systemic neglect and shit pay. Sure we can carpet bomb the shit out of cities and place defensive points around oil wells, but that only makes the natives switch to guerilla tactics that can be very difficult to detect or counter.

  • Unless you're the Mongols of course.

  • Why can't they write more than 10 episodes per season nowadays? This could've been a regular 24 episode season 3 instead.
