  • The US would have way more doctors too if our education was free. Imagine what Cuba could do if it hasn't been in a devastating embargo for over 60 years.

  • Spanish, English, and some Japanese here. I feel it's easier to pick up underlying patterns in vocabulary between languages which in turn lets me understand the written form of other related languages (Portuguese and Italian due to Spanish, some Chinese too). I don't really consider monolingual to be all that different though I figure it can limit their ability to travel the world unhindered somewhat. I notice a very slight change in my personality depending on the language I'm speaking, like I get a little less patient when talking in Spanish and speak a little faster too.

  • Most red states have gerrymandered the shit out of their districts so they're not gonna be able to squeeze that many more seats. Blue states have a much better chance of counteracting those votes if they all do their own gerrymandering however.

  • Depends on what job you're in. If it's highly technical and niche you'll have an easier time finding a better job. A competitor recently tried to poach me for a 50% raise but I turned them down since they didn't have hybrid work available. Sometimes it's better to stick with a job that offers things you value more than money.

  • The threshold for passing reform is too damn high. There should've been some mandatory period to make the change happen more often and easily to keep with the times. Now we're stuck with an antiquated system that still mentions slavery in its founding documents and its loopholes are so well known that someone's using it to turn this country into an autocracy.

Most math instructors teach like we're math majors and are in it for the dirty abstract and "obvious" details that they forget most of us will never use it when working on machines or even some basic programming. Their insistence on teaching in their often inefficient way acts as a filter for so many otherwise promising engineers.
