  • So good people are doing this? Or trying to kick the "ugly" away isn't evil, and is moray acceptable?

    What's your stance exactly?

  • That's not true though.

People really struggle understanding anything else than "it's horribly deadly" and "it's harmless".

  • I definitely do mind, as much as when they kill birds or even insects.

A pet shouldn't be allowed to murder all day long.

  • Yeah it doesn't feel like the background message is so nice. And if that's also something coming from reddit I would say that it could have stayed on reddit.

  • Birds are often much more loving and faithful than humans

  • They're at their home, the kid is just calling other kids, the mother doesn't seem aware of it, the looks of the tablet hints at a young kid, I don't think it's normal for parents to have a ~8 years old kid at home having video calls without knowing it and/or checking on it.

But according to the downvotes I guess the best line of action is to give them unlimited access to the internet and only start thinking when they get kidnapped or traumatised. Now *that" is good parenting.

  • I mean it's on you if you don't limit your kids from using the internet. Why the fuck would a kid be allowed to have video calls on their own?

  • Oh dear, these comics are back...

  • Most performance optimisation can be done through improving algorithms and data structures, and knowing well the language you're using.

I don't think I've encountered any performance issue that wasn't either:

    • Unavoidable because of what I'm doing
    • Coming from an inefficient data structure or algorithm
    • Coming from a bad use or pitfall of the language.

Of course there are specific cases such as low-power environments and such, but that's not what most people talk about when they talk about performance.

I also would like to point out my confusion with the obsession towards performance when it's not needed (such as "is languageA 10% faster than languageB?") but then everyone putting web technologies everywhere, from games to desktop software. It's starting to feel like performance is more of a cult than a pragmatic question at this point.

  • I'm still not decided on which is worse, Picard or Enterprise. But I'd probably choose Picard.

  • You actually think that you're the only Lemmy user who is "like you" and that everyone else here is a communist?

    Talk about a persecution complex.

  • You don't question the shit you say when the only upvote you get out of almost a hundred people is yours?

  • It's the opposite, it would be 1/300 L/person/day, or 1L per 300 persons

  • This guy is a troll, he didn't deserve your explanation

  • Somehow people don't see it.

But I mean, some people like Enterprise , section 31 or Picard that contain the worst morals ever shown in a Star Trek show so people are not going to see the problem with the orville.

  • They're not disagreeing, they're just worried that it's going too fast. Europe has been slowly going nazi but americans are a step further, and european politicians are worried that it will make people realize the fascisation of their societies.

And pretending to be against what's happening in the US is reassuring the enlightened centrists.

  • Yeah, I don't know why I expected anything smart.

  • Downvoting someone stupidly implying that most people with any health issue are responsible for it because they're lazy.

Stop clowning around and turn on your brain.
