Welcome to my profile :)

I post and reshare lot french content on various topic in the threadiverse (lemmy, piefed...). So, if you follow me, your timeline will be probably saturated with news.

I'm french, i mostly animate my communities on Piefed, my favorite fediverse software. I do its wiki and translation.

I love cinema, art, video game, science, politic, history...lot things :D

I'm part of the collective kittens and together we are offering free software service.

I'm also deaf and speak in french sign language. Pleased to meet you.

  • On masto that helped me finding new people or thematic discussion. It may not work very well but it does work with boost. From what i was able to achieve with it, it's an amazing tool 😊

  • Yeah i do agree but sadjy, there is a reason some of us call it lemmyverse. We can see mastodon's content.

Since Lemmy doesn't really support hashtag, the core of mastodon discoverability, I think switching to a new software is better.

PieFed plan to support Mastodon this year. They already do it somewhat : you can follow PieFed user and a.gup.pe work well. You can also follow comment or post by setting up an alert.

Currently, only mbin can do that.

  • Maybe you can show that, we don't alway federate with every instance, with several drawing of this cloud network.

That's also part of our freedom :)

  • Okay, thank a lot i understand better. Perfect. :)

We use crosspost for english meme however a multi-meme community will solve it. If we regroup them in a topic, we won't need crosspost.

I wanted to use it for Peertube. The only problem i see is that [comment on a crosspost] won't post comment on the peertube video.

And if we comment their video, that would solve peertube problem : they have no comments on their video.

  • That's why i recommand our instance moving to Piefed, it provides a better experience each update.

It is not ready yet for daily users. it will be difficult as there is no mobile app, but there is so much improvement...

So fell free to give your feedback to PieFed. :)

  • So that's why cross-post won't be available everywhere ? Only certain use case ?

  • True, i know that users prefers mobile app over web mobile maily due to its navigation.

Anyway two mobile app are upcoming :

    • pferd (fork of thunder)
    • interstellar (to confirm)

For me, the most deal breaker are post/comment view and mod view + notification board. Because as a mod/user, i use them a lot. They are all in development, it's good, it will take some time. :)

Over time i noticed that i prefer the mobile version of Fediverse software. I use the web mobile version for IceShrimp, Lemmy, Piefed. The only app i use is mastodon (fedilab)

The web mobile provide me a better experience : lot features, better sync, mod tool, comment view...it depends a lot on app UI : swipe controle, draft, create post button, filters...

  • Well i think Piefed is pretty close to being a drop-in remplacement.

It's true there are several missing components. however, i recall it was the same for Lemmy 1,5 year ago. And Piefed is catching up in few months.

    How close ? Let's sum up :)

On some part, Piefed clearly outmatch Lemmy on several area :

    • admin/moderation board
    • notification (the ability to chose a post/comment/community to follow/unfollow)
    • feed (multi-community)
    • federation with the fediverse
    • tag (to find more related content based on keyword)

maybe more thing that i don't know about

some part are missing for Piefed :

    • mobile app support (but the web mobile is good + coming soon)
    • lacks of theme
    • cross-post
    • notification board (repport/post/coms/idea aren't separated)
    • comment/post/moderation view
    • media management (lemmy doesn't have one yet, iceshrimp is the best on that area)

There are rough edge. Even if some part are missing, it is quite a good experience. In a few months they did lot progress. :)

  • Well, that's part of the decentralisation with its pros and cons. And that's what i enjoy about the Verse (lemmy, mbin, piefed...)

    • cons : multiple communities with the same name. People are dispersed.
    • pro : no centralised decision for all the Verse. Several flavor.

You can chose them based on :

    • the number of comments and posts.
    • the moderation team by checking the modlog of their community. Do you agree with their value ? How is it managed ?
    • people. Do you fell well there ? Or do you prefer there ? Only time can tell you :)

    Another idea :

    • Use an app that support multi-communities
    • Create a Piefed account so you can benefit from multi-community : feed. Create a feed, and put those similar community in one place. On few cross-post, they also regroup comment in one place. It's still a new software but i enjoy it a lot. :)
  • Correct. However with ActivityPub protocol those number are irrevalent : any increase of users from (Lemmy, Mbin, Piefed) will benefit Lemmy, Mbin, Piefed.

And to a certain extend, on Mbin and later Piefed, they will also reach microblogging plateform as iceshrimp and mastodon. Then pixelfed, peertube, loops...

  • You should definitly try them. :)

    • Mbin : you can connect to mastodon account, they support flair, filter by content type. I don't use it a lot but enjoy it.
    • Piefed : a good moderation board, flair, multi-community (feed), peertube support...
  • No. However there are two mobile app in WIP :

    • a fork of Thunder : Pferd. (only for testing and i love its logo)
    • Interstellar, they want to support Piefed

I use daily Piefed as an app. The mobile website works well :

    • you open https://piefed.social with your browser.
    • Then click on add a shortcut and it will work as an app.
  • Nice word, i tried to find a similar word to microblogging (masto/IceShrimp) Sadly, threads was already taken, and i do want to promote Meta.

So, Verse as competitive, verse as poem, verse as conversation...i think it fit lemmy/mbin/nodeBB/piefed perfectly :)

  • For the story, if i recall correctly, part of hexbear admins were aways so they got a paiement problem.

Their domain reseller put a bid for hexbear.net domain. It skyrocketed to 2500$. I'm glad they didn't have to pay those corpothieve.

  • 2025 is also the year of Piefed. :)

  • Very cool thank you :D

  • It will be open later to shop and eshop. Probably around 2026. I saw a élog post about their roadmap.

  • And wero from European paiement initiative that regroup all major french and german bank.

  • Very cool, i would recommand Piefed over Lemmy. There is a special grid view if you enjoy picture and the ability to create your own multi-commu. :)
