Welcome to my profile :)

I post and reshare lot french content on various topic in the threadiverse (lemmy, piefed...). So, if you follow me, your timeline will be probably saturated with news.

I'm french, i mostly animate my communities on Piefed, my favorite fediverse software. I do its wiki and translation.

I love cinema, art, video game, science, politic, history...lot things :D

I'm part of the collective kittens and together we are offering free software service.

I'm also deaf and speak in french sign language. Pleased to meet you.

  • Yes Lemmy communities are nice but you will notice quickly that there are part you may want to avoid. So each communities, even if they may have the same name offer a different experience. It's all up to the mod team 😅

    Btw, there are other software part of the forumverse as Mbin, NodeBB and PieFed that offer a slightly different experience and UI too

    So that mean we could decide some option per label like this :

    • gore > text only, remove picture
    • nudity > do nothing
    • porn > hide
    • positive > promote Or even set up the threehold :
    • gore > hide if 10 users voted

    As for the crowdsource verification, that may join my idea for a mediation team where they browse, class content.

  • It could be a nice idea but the hard part is that we don't have the same sensibility about negativity. But i agree with you, i meet lot users thatqlowered my mood because they weren't happy with the name or title...

    I think it is easier to tag #GoodNews or #Positive

  • This idea is pretty cool, i hope they will succeed to achieve that. Imo, we lack diversity on the forumverse except maybe mastodon.

    It would provide an additional security layer, another governance. They could also benefit a lot from local community and can check vote, email, ip...Other have already mentionned good example with blahaj, beehaw...

    On the other hand, it will render the instance more visible.

    On my main instance, jlai.lu, i think we don't manage well sexist speech. They are moderated, we do our best to explain to our users what's wrong and slowly change them but we don't have the same sensibility as women.

    Men explaining women...So we probably missed lot things.

    It's not that i can delete or ban him. That's not my way. I'm drafting some ideas so maybe we will create new tool for the fediverse. :)

  • It doesn't matter, true. We can see every comments in a crossposted post. But on the other hand Blaze is also right. :)

    I told him the same thing about its lemmy repport that i wished something less lemmy centric. :)

    Maybe you can tell them ? I'm giving feedback to piefed dev on their UI, suggesting ideas is also part of PieFed's development. :)

  • Well, i thought the same about rust and python. i'm not a dev and lack understanding on their component.

    My opinion became more nuanced with Lemmy. I have read there spike in ressource usage with lemmy on server.

    So, I believe the language matter but also its features, the way you think how people will use it. Its core design.

    When you manage a social network, the most fondamental feature is the moderation board. I find this area is lacking on Lemmy. Crosspost ? Duplicate everywhere, on my timeline, i get 4-5 time the same post...so i believe it miss some design thinking.

    From what i see, the various lemmy-bot (most of them are written in python i think ?) and alternative frontend are improving lemmy experience. For example, how do you add an mod with lemmy-web-ui ?

    I also believe that being written in Rust make it harder for new devs to help. But in later time we will see a change.

  • Yes, you are right. Mbin is far more advanced than Lemmy. And PieFed more avanced than Lemmy, less then Mbin.

    There are lot neat features in Mbin and PieFed so i wish we consider all options before pushing Lemmy everywhere. I also wish more app support from both of them.

    I wish we try to remain neutral because, i strongly believe that the 3 softwares can inspire each other.

  • Dunno what you were talking about. i'm only guessing with pseudo comment. Yes the issue could be written in english to share the problem to everyone.

    However on other hand, i think it's a good place to talk in other langage than english. That's almost the first time i read sentence like that. English there and there, and your language is almost inexistant on internet.

    Maybe we should do more effort toward bilingual writting ? :)

  • Well we would miss lot interesting topics from Mastodon. You may not see the point because english user base is big.

    Most of our french user base stayed on Reddit or use Mastodon. Art ? Mastodon. News ? Mastodon...

    So how can we solve that ? On Mastodon, i found lot user posting interesting links. Our left french media are also on mastodon. Should be able to crosspost them here ? :)

    I went on mastodon, created an account, copy-pasta posted news on various communities, I used hashtag and some users commented on jlai.lu

    It does works but we need to allow the users the freedom to be followed or not. If they want to be followed, they can follow mastodon users. And that would be the first step to break "locked" software as reddit, twitter.

    We are more open then Reddit but, for me, i think we are replicating proprietary software organisation. We are still creating clone of twitter, reddit whereas we use a protocole that allow us to achieve much more things.

    Shouldn't we try something else where lines between various software is blurred ?
