I work on the floor in a pretty specialized role, so I can always just use the excuse of having to attend to any given machine coincidentally whenever they want to have a meeting I don't feel like attending.
None of the managers really understand what we do, so they don't challenge the excuses ever.
You can do this at home. Everything here is under 2000 dollars spent total because we bought from bankrupted gyms liquidating during covid and a couple home gym people after covid who preferred going to a gym and were offloading equipment for next to nothing.
Outdated pic but same rack today:
You need the space to begin with, but besides the rowers (can be stored vertically) and rack, the space waste isn't that huge. George Hackenschmidt's abridged/edited down by me workout routine is pinned to my back wall there. An old world strong man from an era before steroids existed. He didn't do focused muscle training, instead all-round balanced and, this is key, a very minimal amount of equipment is needed. You can look up how he looked, I think it's aesthetically pleasing.
But yeah that's really it. Lift heavy things, row, and I run or bike. I do not enjoy it. I don't pretend to. I'm not doing this for enjoyment, I'm a big nerd who never enjoyed physical activity ever. It's simply to stay in good shape because that was noticeably slipping in my 30's.
So I'm doing this entirely out of self preservation. Importantly, I also do Yoga. Flexibility is important too.
Gyms are indeed predatory with their obnoxious membership programs and cancelation antics. I'm lucky to have some space in my ugly basement.
Your senior aged family members just seem to suck but we only got a single sentence of detail.
Old people are not universally mean lol. Honestly it seems to me that almost every asshole I knew since a young age was an asshole in their childhood, teens, and adulthood so far. I figure that won't change. There's some exceptions, but it seems very hard to change personality.
Old stuff goes on the local buy&sell or eBay if it's worth enough used. Otherwise it's on the front boulevard with a spray painted FREE sign next to whatever I want gone. It's very rare whatever I dump out there isn't taken within minutes. Don't hoard.
Shit tons of shelves and cabinets. Get stuff off the surfaces you use all the time, or would if it wasn't covered in shit. Now you can dust the home and vacuum easily too!
No impulse purchases. Do you really want it, let alone need it? Discipline.
Get a filing cabinet if you don't have one already for a job you do. Just a two drawer is enough.
I've thus far avoided feeling the need to host my own garage or yard sale, but that might be a good place to start if it's feasible.
Debate boards here just wouldn't work out even with equivalent population. The OPs regularly delete their posts out of embarrassment. Religious debaters especially.
What a waste it'd be to put the effort into a debate only for the entire thread to get nuked out of existence because the OP can't handle the responses. It's annoying enough to just lose the OP arguments on reddit when they self delete. Here, everything is just gone.
Get the base model of whatever the consensus on brand is generally. ALWAYS research though. They all wash dishes, usually the biggest problems people have with dishwashers is user error stuff. Like not knowing you need hot water at the sink first before starting the dishwasher. which pulls from hot water pipe, but the water in the pipe is not even warm yet by the time it stops calling for water if you just start it. Same with not adding dishwasher detergent to the pre wash cycle, adding too much detergent to the main cycle spring loaded container, not accounting for hard water streaking and failing to buy a streak/rinse aid, not cleaning the filters or door seals regularly, buying a shitty detergent and not trying others, etc.
No bee has ever stung me without cause, but I don't have killer bees living here. I do wonder if bees often get falsely accused for wasp behavior, but idk.
Shoutouts to @sbv@sh.itjust.works BUY BIDET NOW. Obligatory comment about wiping shit off your hands with dry paper goes here. Wash your ass. I have two bidets BTW and I use Arch Linux BTW.
Wall mounted soda can crusher. Recycling space saver.
Powered water fountain for cats. They instinctually prefer running water.
I bought the Swiss Army Knife of memory foam pillows that has sections on both ends for side sleeping, a dent in the middle with a neck support sticking out the bottom for support while stomach sleeping, and it works for sleeping on my back too. I don't really have a discernable favorite position, so I love the multifunction pillows.
I have huge thigh muscles because I used to be fat and I just maintain them now. I like some fabric between my legs when out and about. Otherwise briefs would be fine. Still wouldn't choose them over boxer briefs because I find the style more aesthetically pleasing too.
I did wear boxers in my teens and they're fine. It's a pretty weak favorable preference towards boxer briefs tbh but I only buy one kind for whatever reason lol.
Rare for me was Nickelodeon, or any premium cartoon channel really. I only saw their cartoons during free trials growing up. No Spongebob for me. I had Y-TV and PBS mainly. Some cartoons mirrored from Fox Kids. Stuff like that. I also had a nearby library. We did have Comedy Central.
Futurama was my favorite for sure.
Younger me loved Rupert, especially the mirror dimension episode.
I just use Stremio on everything now with the usual plugins and a debrid service sub. I could do it old school on mobile, but navigating Android is baseline a tedious slog even while knowing what I'm doing.
