  • Qwant and Ecosia teamed up to make a European indexer/web crawler. They're still using Bing to pad the result quality for now but slowly phasing out reliance on Bing from what I understand.

Still, they also push AI so can use this argument:

Ecosia have to use cookies unfortunately to disable AI overview:

  • Nothing. Variety is the spice of life.

  • Basically showing each other our favorites.

    Very jealous lol.

...DVDs are cheaper overall. ...Most of it is garbage that I'll never watch, so there isnt much value in streaming for me anymore.

When going the legal route, can't argue with that logic fair enough.

...What games do you and your friends play mostly?

Mixed bag we're all variety gamers. Much like online gaming for us it's just an excuse to show up and talk. Lately it's been Sega Genesis emulation and getting through the harder USA version of Streets of Rage 3. A lot of shoot 'em up arcade titles via MAME. A ROM hack basically a combined version of all N64 Mario Party games into one. We were taking turns playing Death Stranding 2 in the winter. Xenogears before that, again with a hack this time just QoL features and a better English translation.

  • High on their own supply. Common human weakness, fuck I wish it weren't.

  • Over time my strategy flipped from HTPC being my old desktop builds to becoming the newest build in the house that I do everything fun on. Since my friends still visit for local multiplayer, I have a bunch of 8bitdo controllers and arcade sticks. I primarily use them too yep.

Trackpad keyboard is great for general navigation/web browsing. The joke is there's very little competition in this form factor. Also have a cushioned wood lap desk with a proper keyboard+mouse. Mouse heavy gaming. Quake Brutalist Jam 3, Nova Roma, HMM: Olden Era, and Toxic Commando I brought out the lap desk for most recently.

This is all Stremio's fault 😅.

What was your motivation to start buying DVD again? I went all in on digital a decade back after being the guy who owned every major (and some flops) console dating back to the 1970's for so long. Pirate all in, software emulation all in. I bought a NAS. I hate subscriptions and minimise those. Never sold off vinyl or my movie collection however. Still buy vinyl but no new movie purchases in said decade.

  • Here's to all 100 of us Linux couch gamers who all happen to own a Logitech K400 Plus. If you know, you know.

  • We love a good redemption story.

  • Should be in Uplifting News.

  • Not much, but I leave a site more so because I felt the experience became obnoxious at some point for each specific site. I didn't want to be there anyways even before any other reason gets a chance to set in. I have very low tolerance for corporate / conservative fuckery.

I still use YouTube but my subs aren't toxic it's mostly just educational material and retro/modern tech channels. Zero politics. Adblock, Sponsorblock, Tweaks for YT.

I still use Twitch but only for old core variety streamers such as Vinesauce, Jerma, PMW. I adblock and don't sub.

    That's it now for "mainstream."

  • Twilight Imperium has a 180-240 min playing time, Jesus Christ!

lmao just setting up the initial board game and reading through the rules took an entire meet-up session back when we started playing. It's fairly daunting. Definitely had a bunch of rule violations the first round just figuring it out, improved from there haha. When you play with a full 6 players it can take longer than 4 hours to complete sometimes.

That was the case for me as well, it felt too complicated and slow. But when you understand the game and calculate into the future it gets very satisfying.

Makes sense, it's just hard to motivate myself on my own to learn.

  • Strategy I like:

Stratego. I just have a knack for this one and play it to death.

Twilight Imperium with all the expansion packs. I have third edition, haven't tried fourth which came out 2017.

    Chinese Go.

    Motherfuggen SCRABBLE!

    Chance I like: Buckshot Roulette

Chance I dislike: slots and other trash tier gambling games designed to make you lose more than gain.

Dislike strategy: I can't get into Chess. I don't know if Aphantasia is hampering my abilities here. I didn't try long enough to really know yet so it's just more of a bad first impressions grudge. Maybe one day I'll meet a friend who likes Chess.

  • One ban is the notorious news sdf troll mod, edit: but otherwise they're needlessly inflammatory yeah I looked farther down.

  • If I meow back at my Siamese cats they'll get more intense and meow louder and louder as we go back and forth until it escalates to hideous yowling. I never win the decibel wars.
