On Windows, almost never since it was a disruptive shitshow. Now that I've got everything running Linux it's weekly. Often sooner if I happen to be remoting in and manually update.
Excellent points but I would argue that for the majority of users, Mint does indeed just work right out of the box. Everything that most people would need is already there.
Something that I'd like to point out that a lot of people seem to miss, is that power saving is not always about saving money.
I live off-grid, so for me it's about not draining my battery bank, which is a precious and limited resource. It can make the difference between getting by on solar power or having to run a generator to recoup the losses.
Running a generator uses fuel (another limited resource), it's loud, and produces heat and exhaust. It's the last thing I ever want to do if I can avoid it. Depending on the time and location it may not even be an option.
I've been purging all big tech from my life as much as possible. Meta was easy because they don't really offer anything. It took quite a while to eliminate google. Once that was done, it was Microsoft's turn.
I've also been absolutely fed up with Windows over the years. Each release somehow gets worse and more clunky and in my way of doing what I'm trying to do. So on top of being untrustworthy, using my data and generally being capitalist assholes, Microsoft's product itself is shit.
I installed Mint and seen what innovation actually looks like. I also realized most of the things I love about android are actually features of linux under the hood. So I intend to jump on the linux phone bandwagon as well.
I've been using Photoshop for over 20 years. That's been the hardest part. GIMP is impressive but for as long as it's been around it's still a little rough around the edges here and there. I'm learning to deal with it though.
I'm so tired of hearing people cry about banking apps. If you've got a working web browser you'll survive.
