  • The only reason there's a shortage of spaces in the first place is predatory design.

    An apartment I used to live in was newly built, and each building had big gated underground parking, as well as a very few small outdoor parking lots. It was really clear that the underground parking was supposed to be tenant parking and the parking lots were for visitors. Yet, they were charging for the underground parking, and that outdoor parking lot was 100% full 99.99% of the time.

    And now, apartment complexes are being built that don't have that outdoor parking, and only have the underground parking, and the management wants to sell the underground parking as extra, rather than just letting people use the parking meant for them, and so all the street parking is taken up.

    I had a friend in that more recent design, and it was in a residential neighborhood. So you have a bunch of apartment tenants parking all along the streets by a bunch of houses. It was awful... For everybody involved.

    But the landlord has to make enough money to do fuckall and buy another yacht somehow.

    But claiming ig is 100% not a drug is not the way.

    Ig is kinda shitty and meta absolutely has fallen into that political trap. "Who's to say how they would behave if we were under left rule, and not far right?"

    Tiktok, I'm sad about. It truly was a real haven for many. I didn't use insta, though, I'm too old.

    I don't think giving these tech programs into the hands of evil is the right move. But imagine if musk bought meta after a public shaming.

    The world is largely headed that way, anyway. And we just have to deal with it. Maga and natsoc is cancer and should be feared and hated and fought as such. In that sense, judging correctly if meta has been infected/is lost/will be lost, is the correct course of action as a preliminary, and further actions stemming from that result. With "this app is addictive and manipulative and influential" being important, but not as.

    If we want to win against fascism, unfortunately, they're playing ball and we're standing in the field shitting our pants and trying to smell the flowers.

  • The attraction to tt was the algorithm. Yt's algo is garbo. Yt just gives you more of the same, whereas tt would magically align you with your people and your needs. Yt is sorta trying to do that right now, but it's all from spying on you, rather than algorithmically.

    It's like the difference between having a conversation with somebody irl about having itchy feet and then suddenly your algorithm is filled with ads for views cures for itchy feet, vs slowly figuring out that you're neurodivergent, and then through watch time and liked comments, starting to feed you stuff that other people like you like, and you end up in whatever corner that is most useful to you.

    It's the difference between your platform ONLY being one video at a time and the devs HAVE to figure out what you MIGHT like, vs a platform that feeds you choices and a feed and tries to guess your categories and shit. It's very, very different, and imo tt was much, much better.

    It's funny but, when people talk about what tiktok is just x-thing, they're really really telling on themselves. Like if people say it's just slop or teens dancing, it's pretty well known, at least to people who have USED tiktok, that that's really fucking bad unless the person is themselves a teen. Unfortunately, it's usually a conservative senator or someone's dad and it's just eewwwww

  • Well, I'm a millennial and I feel like I'm an alien in nightmare hell. So my best advice is to adjust your expectations. If you're at all like me, you won't. In which case, seek a healthy community now that will last you a lifetime, and to take really good care of your body and mind, you're durable, but will still take on real damage because this is real life. Investing in yourself is always the right choice, but listen to your body. Be gayer. Drink more water. Wear sunscreen. Wash your butt. Environment means a LOT more than you realize. Listen to people's actions, not their words. Inaction is still action. Correlation is not causation. Define what freedom means to you. All relationships with people, including yourself, are relationships that are temporary and always bidirectionally negotiable, for better and for worse. Stretch more. Air quality matters, co2, humidity, mold, particulates, smoke, temperature, smell, familiarity, etc. Learn to be with yourself and who you are. Advice is a form of nostalgia, be cautious but patient with those who supply it. Don't be a dick. Love and kindness is always the answer. Make peace with death so that you can live your life. Being different isn't easy, but there's nothing wrong with it. Every single person is fucking stupid, including you, and that's okay. Confidence is not a signifier of competence. Practice makes permanent. You are going to fail a lot, but you will also succeed. Find out what you truly enjoy, but accept that your tastes may change. Define integrity. Understand what a fad is. Don't expect to be entertained. Practice empathy, but don't put up too much with those who don't. Don't vape or smoke. Suck dick at least once. Eat butt puss at least once. Realize that most people are just like you, but that you are not default or average in anything. Seriously, drink more water. Sugar is water soluble. And learn how to properly brush your fucking teeth and go to the dentist.
