  • If a woman is beaten by her husband would it be sexist to call her an abused wife?

Would it be racist to say "so and so was a victim of a hate crime"?

I didn't commit the crime, I just pointed it out.

  • Yeah. It probably is a little rude, like telling a 600 lb person that they really need to lose weight is rude, but that doesn't make it untrue, and it's certainly not sexist.

Clearly I'm opposed to the sexist behavior of treating women like pets or property, that's why I'm speaking out against it.

If you ever notice that I am unaware that I am being manipulated, abused, or mistreated, please point it out to me. I'd rather be told the truth than continue to be manipulated because "it would be rude".

  • I think her circumstances are sexist. I don't blame her, I feel bad for her.

Is it rude and sexist to tell an abused woman that she should not go back to him?

  • Sounds like you never had a chance to live on your own. Never had a chance to discover what your own tastes and preferences are. You were living in your parents house with your parents possessions, and now you probably have more authority than before (or at least I hope so, or this is even more sad) but every purchase, and every activity is still a compromise with your household.

This sounds less like growing up and more like a pet being given away to a new owner.

  • Hey, weren't they supposed to have a cage match a few years back? Chickens. I would have enjoyed watching that.

And I'd bet on Zuckerberg. He's a bit younger, and actually trains in some form of martial arts.

  • System of A Down

  • Definitely counts as a hobby. It just happens to be a hobby that requires and develops cooking skills.

  • Just another American checking in to say that I have no idea.

I would guess it was located in the UK, but that's about it.

  • We're probably going to have to wait for them to land before we get an update.

But, any restaurants I've worked in (USA) cannot force a cashier to cover any missing cash. If they are consistently short, they can get fired, or, if it's an obscene amount that's missing, they can be investigated for theft, but the cashier will not be paying for this guy's sandwich.

  • My first job was in the furniture dept at Big Lots.

  • Oh yeah. It's usually local business owners, they think being above the local median income makes them billionaire celebrities.

I've also had the opposite. I worked with a friendly regular guy in his 50s wearing a T-shirt and sweatpants, and after he left, another customer asked me if I knew who he was. Turns out he was one of the top heart surgeons in the US.

  • That's the one! I haven't thought about him in years, so it was pretty shocking to see that he's in this movie.

  • Did we go to the same school?!

  • That was MADDOX!!!

He was the robber at the beginning. Does anyone else remember thebestpageintheuniverse.net?

I had his book The Alphabet of Manliness, but a coworker borrowed it and that was about 15 years ago.

I should look into what he's up to now.

  • Life is an endless grind of pointless suffering with no end.

  • I was invited to an Automatic Writing class.

For anyone not familiar: You relax, do a little meditation, and put pen to paper. You think about what you want to ask, and watch as your hand writes the advice or answer your spirit guides need you to see.

That's the story at least. We could debate the forces involved, but that's how it was presented to me.

I went in with an open mind and followed the directions. After about a half hour of nothing, I decided to give it a test. I spotted a fruit bowl in the other room, I could see that there was fruit in it, but I couldn't tell how much, so I asked how many pieces of fruit are in the fruit bowl. My pen slid across the page and down. Clearly, I had drawn a seven. I went over and checked the bowl and there were exactly 7 pieces of fruit in the bowl.

I later also asked if a promotion that I was sure I was going to get, was going to be good for me, and I wrote "nonononononono" which I thought was nonsense at the time. About a week later, I did not get that promotion, but because I didn't get that job, I was able to take another, better position that opened up at a location much closer to my home.

I can't explain it, but it's all true.

  • Wait. I thought a coin purse was a scrotum.

I think I've only heard it used once it twice before.

  • I'm going to make my wife read this so she stops groaning every time I say it.

  • Good question. I also share a fear of heights, and although heights can be dangerous, having to stand 5 feet behind the overlook railing is just as unreasonable as avoiding black cats.
