There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

  • Audacious isn't perfect, but it's far better than the others that I tried. Had been using VLC forever in WIndows, but for whatever reason I kept running into issues that I couldn't resolve, so began a search for alternatives.

    The only huge issue I have is when I add more songs to my music directory, I can't refresh the existing playlist. I have to delete and add the directory again. Don't do it a lot, so it's more inconvenience, and everything else works so much better than other alternatives did.

  • It's worse. It's the projection of a 3d shape onto a 2d shape, which is then captured on a different 2d shape to be displayed to us.

    It also has a brief 4d dimension, sliced at the second the picture was taken.

  • Life started very early on, possibly soon after the surface cooled enough for water to condense. We're in the midpoint of a typical yellow dwarf star like the Sun, and as I said, the Sun's conditions start changing long before the red giant phase. I don't see where you get not even being halfway.

    I wasn't claiming man as ultimate, but just the only species I've noticed that managed to find a way to escape the Earth's biosphere (briefly). It won't happen again. No hubris, just a matter of time.

  • The problem is that man was probably life's only chance to escape the ultimate trap, the end lifecycle of the Sun. Which for life's purposes isn't the end red giant stage, but long before. Life has had a few restarts in Earth's history, but it may not have that same window of time for another one that would get to what we have now.

  • I'm sure that's the condition, to use your data (that they protect of course) to better improve the browser. And I'm sure they are in a country where they don't have to show logs (that I'm sure they don't keep, yet somehow use your data).

    They need to stick with just the browser, period. Stop trying to drift into other areas. Firefox has unfortunately gotten too heavy for what it should be, and adding even more features (good or bad) doesn't help the core performance.

    The other options out there have their pluses and minuses, but if Firefox keeps pushing people will live with the negatives of the browsers that seem to care about the browsing experience of their users.

  • I remember a time before when we hit $5 a gallon and not in California. And $5 was worth a lot more then, so we haven't hit a high point at all. When it starts affecting crucial transportation, that's when we'll feel it. For now we just whine about it and still don't change our habits.

  • I don't think that's fair to pick out for an attack on his abilities or what he says. Lots of people wee scared that day, and should have been. If anything, use this as a point in time where he should have changed his political stance, realizing who the real enemy was.

  • I will concede only in the fact that it made me look like a miracle worker to my parents when I "fixed" their mouse that had stopped working with my magic.

    On the other hand, the Christmas I gave them an LED mouse was peak level for all of us.

  • They are the real problem, and unfortunately even Trump falls into the "devil you know" classification. It would be a gamble whether or not we get a worse situation with a more capable person who has the same power and motives. It's the time traveler's dilemma of getting rid of Hitler and finding out the future is now worse because of who took his place.

  • I actually do this. I have a small power bank I keep the mouse hooked up to, and when it falls low enough it taps into it. Every few weeks or even a month I recharge the bank up. But wires being a problem will depend on your setup and desk real estate. This doesn't bother me, but having a wired keyboard would lose some space, so I'm glad for my wireless there. And that's even less of a hassle, as it's still running off the original batteries it came with years (and years!) ago. Makes sense, there is very little power usage there being a boring old Logitech non-backlit keyboard.

  • Another one to add to the list when someone claims intelligent design. Approached from evolution, this makes sense - what works becomes a thing. And while it's disgusting to us, it's just a process and they're doing their part to help the cycle. From an ID pov... what the living fuck?

  • Good points. However, if you're already in you're going to get that anyway. Save some evidence for the book and trial I guess to show you had changed your motive, hope it's enough. And if you still get in prison, know you did something to change the tide, hopefully.

    All that is based on someone who had gone in initially convinced this was a good thing to be in. If you started out with the plan to be the mole, knowing you could be burned as you say, that's a true patriot there. And few would do that, I agree.

  • If a company hires a person, HR handles the hiring. The person's manager isn't involved in all the checks and processes beforehand. The govertment is no different, you have a department for this to centralize. And you still haven't commented on the real problem, not Crockett, as you wanted this to bend, but about how someone got through that process (which should be far more rigorous than private), and what that means for currently active security. That should be your focus.
