  • Mostly I love being physically embodied, I love seeing and feeling, eating, sex, lived being pregnant, I love having a physical body and consciousness.

What sucks to me is not necessarily physical decline - in general I've been able to handle what is thrown at me. I do hate time though. Hate the way we experience it in one direction. Hate the irreversible past that leads to the unavoidable future, it seems to just all be rolling out with no way to change it, every action came from some past action. Not just a big ship to turn, more like it will turn or it won't but we can't make anything happen that wasn't already going to happen. Our present the irreversible past of tomorrow's unavoidable future.

  • Thanks, I did give them more water. And yes she is such a cutie!

  • Pink Pony Club. WTF, why is it good? It's good. Also Whole Lotta Rosie by AC/DC is such a banger.

Some bands have won me over with their live shows, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness and Bright Light Social Hour and Lord Huron are like that, I didn't "get" them until I saw them live in smaller venues.

  • I'm not nostalgic like that, love to hear new music, and see new shows, read new books.

But boy do I like to know what bird that is in the yard. I feed the crows. I grow things. I wear clothes with elastic waist and flat shoes.

And teatime meal >late supper, I feel so much better if I eat earlier.

  • My kids' elementary school had the opposite sort of message, the principal saying, in a flat slightly southern US accent - si quieres Espanol oprima el numero dos, like such an accent I am not sure anyone who spoke only Spanish would know what she was saying.

    See

    Kee-yer-is

    Ess pan ohl

    Oh pree muh

    Ell

    Noo mur oh

    Dowhs.

  • Ack no, not in my house. I cook, husband does the dishes usually. I clean the dishwasher filter, maintain the machine and tell him not to clean the dishes before they go in. He doesn't usually wash my cast iron because he was messing it up (which is not easy to do but he managed it) but all the regular dishes and most of the pots & pans are his world because he wants me to cook.

  • What the heck? Dude, you don't have to be a prostitute to get "out of wedlock" sex. It's not like guys were worried about engendering children out of wedlock - wedlock was to lock the woman so she wouldn't have kids with someone else.

Like, I know my kids are my kids because I am the one pregnant. It's guys who wanted to control women to make sure the kids were half theirs.

  • My husband always thought he did, but is slowly coming around. He will order "medium well" at restaurants but last time he did that, he got it and said it was overcooked, lol. Probably because at home I say "cooked on the outside not on the inside please, we spent a lot of money on this."

Stew meat cooks forever and is better for it, but not steak, no.

  • I am into most of those "acceptable hobbies" but would throw reading and gaming into the same bucket. I read, the kids game and both engage your mind. Husband watches TV to unwind and that seems much less mentally engaging to me.

@Korhaka@sopuli.xyz homebrewing to me falls squarely into Cooking category. I also put cocktail making, and any fermentation in cooking. So "drinking" as a hobby isn't necessarily passive, can be creative like cooking. Putting Drinking in unacceptable hobbies, they might as well include Eating. The consuming of it isn't creative but the creation of the food & drink is. Also learning about wine, etc.

  • I don't think it's aliens or demons, but I do think the people of the future will look back on this time and see us as just as ignorant as the people who said there are demons. Whatever "it" is, it's not demons nor aliens.

  • Yes with new clothes because the basic fit varies among brands. So, for example, Gap & Madewell think average women are about 5'7" and built straight up and down, their women's clothes are longer and less curvy and fit me better than others usually.

  • I dunno - my ex burned all the skin off his hand once, the first question at the emergency room was "how are you paying?" and we waited there 5 hours before they saw him, during which time it got so much worse he ended up needing more treatment & therapy. No we didn't have insurance or money back then. They eventually arranged temporary Medicaid for him as he couldn't work with the hand so burned. Which left us without his income (I had just given birth too) so without much food.

Anyway - this was in the 1990s but I am absolutely sure we had to wait because we could not pay, even though it was an obvious emergency.

  • I believe people can be good in different ways. I had a friend who had some batshit insane religious beliefs (Baptist), like she said it was worse to kill yourself than someone else, because then you couldn't repent. But she would do anything for a friend, I had an emergency and she kept my kids even though she had a job interview, as an example. So she was good in actions and I'd argue evil in beliefs.

I have a coworker who is so mean & cutting, complains relentlessly about her husband, prickly person but does a great job at her job, loves her dog, and is great to work with because she Gets Shit Done. Is she good? Bad ?

I guess my bottom line criteria is can you care about others in at least some way, so empathy or sympathy is what makes it possible to be good.

  • My mom kicked me out when I was 17. She wasn't mad exactly just had a lot to deal with. My dad had died the year before and she had 3 other kids to deal with and I guess figured I'd land on my feet. That took several years, lol but a satisfying arc I suppose, from desperately poor to quite comfortable. I am in the same city still, in a part of town I like more.

My kids, I let them stay until they want to leave, if there's room. Between me & my husband we have so many but only 2 left at home, plus a girlfriend of one of them. The couple plans to move into their own place in the summer (we are in winter now) then we will be down to one.

  • Stress, mental/emotional stress. When my biologist kid was talking about how harmful stress is, I was just thinking it's normal, right? Like how the fuck am I supposed to avoid stress? No person could, we have to be made to handle it, or even benefit from it? Like how stressing my muscles makes them healthier?

No. Early life stress, damaging. Midlife stress, damaging. Old age stress, damaging. Mental stress causes physical damage.

  • Emmylou Harris wrote two of my tearjerker songs. Both amazing and so sad.

Red Dirt Girl, and Boulder to Birmingham.

  • By making mistakes! I have always been experimental with food and it eventually paid off. I can cook very well now, and love to. Lucky you to have a cook!

My mom made food for us, and kept easy to make stuff too, we were well fed, but she was not a good cook, just spaghetti and chili and eggs, wirh an occasional crab/shrimp boil, it was fine but she didn't enjoy cooking.

  • Yes, and I have also picked up hitchhikers. Hitchhiked from north England to Scotland, picked up a few times locally, never any trouble, no adventures.

  • Better because my dad died before he was my age, and that threw my mom into a depression and harmed her for a long time. U.S.
