  • Teenagers aren't really known for making great decisions.

Source: was once a teenager, made bad decisions.

  • You'd have to be careful to craft the message in a way that a vision-impaired student would know to ignore it though, since assistive tech like a screenreader would suffer the same flaw. But by making it so outlandish helps.

  • I already switched my devices to Kubuntu.

  • If fishing worked like this I would totally start doing that.

  • I'm all about mocking the American Century of Humiliation brought on by cuts to their food safety system, but in this case isn't there evidence that the contaminated lettuce was originally sourced from Mexico? I'm not super big on trusting any evidence from the MAGA admin but AFAIK that's all we've got.

  • A modern-ish datacentre AI GPU is worth well into five figures on eBay. The copper wire and "infrastructure equipment" is small potatoes compared to that. Like 100kg of NVIDIA Tesla GPUs would be worth more than those two whole truckloads.

  • The Trump White House can't be trusted to tell American Present.

  • Then Donner shouldn't have had Superman flying around the earth in the same direction that the rotation changed to. Like if Superman had been flying around the world North-South, it wouldn't look like he was physically turning the rotation of the planet back with his flying.

  • Just putting up parking fees everywhere - not great.

Honestly, this can be good too. I've seen many places where parking is "free" and the end result is that there isn't any parking available other than expensive private lots. The city is robbing itself then: It's diverting the revenue from parking into private hands, which also encourages private parking lots which are an urban blight, and making it less convenient and affordable for business customers while a handful of people squat on the free parking all-day every-day.

Everybody would be happier if the street had affordably-priced meters. Everybody except for the people who are using that street-side parking all-day every-day, but those people are basically poaching very limited and valuable land from the municipality.

  • It's 2026, there's no longer an excuse for phone companies being unable to figure out who's paying for the phone line. Make them liable if they can't figure out where the call came from.

  • Annoyed at slow release processes since I want this but I also hate the risk of crapping up my system by adding a new source. It'll be a dog's age before I can get it on a stable version of Ubuntu, but I've had so much trouble installing big corpo programs I need on anything but Ubuntu stable that I'm afraid to leave it.

  • Reintroduces, really. Iirc it was originally made for plasma 5 and and was broken by changes in Plasma 6. This is "we fixed the stuff we broke".

  • Compromise: mandatory service for young people, wealth taxes on older people who never had to face mandatory service.

  • Yeah, Chromecast has been kind of a disaster for Google imho, in that it never got widespread adoption in TVs. If they'd pushed an open standard they might've been able to get that over the finish-line and get buy-in from 3rd parties. But instead every smart TV and smart phone has its own video streaming approach, it seems.

  • Right but I'm specifically referring to devices where their USB-C port is capable of full video out.

  • Yeah, I have a pixel 7 and was disappointed on vacation to learn that its USB-C port can't do video when I wanted to plug it into a hotel room TV.

I don't get why this is a Pixel thing at all and not an Android thing though. Shouldn't any Android OS device that can do full video output over USB-C be able to do this?
