  • Absolutely, mileage will vary, so do your research.

Mine got me a mortgage when nobody else was lending. Got my wife the house she'd always wanted, her grandma's place. I'd been a member for more than a decade by that point. The mortgage wasn't even through them, they found us the lender, so they at best got a referral fee.

  • Move your shit to a credit union. They are far more forgiving.

  • Lawsuits will not beat fascists.

  • Well not annually.

  • If the mayor is pro-AI, then the city's actual citizens are in for a ride.

  • I remember, Sammy Jankis!

  • The Christian Science Monitor is amazing, and from it's name you'd never expect it.

My grandmother was a Christian Scientist. I respect her but it's a baffling cultish offshot.

Its basis, though, was in radiacal feminism in the late 1800s. I used to read the Christian Science Monitor when we would visit her when I was a kid.

A large part of why I defaulted to atheism is from the fact that my Dad's parents were never openly religious, my Dad is a Buddhist, my mom was nominally Christian, her mom we already discussed, and her Dad was a Congregationalist Minister and organ player.

I figured none of them could be right and it was better to try to be a good person without those structures.

Grandma and I never saw eye to eye, unfortunately.

  • Fenn better not be your root password.

  • Are you even a real activist?

How many times have you sent the Bee Movie script today?

  • They don't expect to need votes ever again.

  • Please don't use LOL in these kinds of circumstances. You shouldn't laugh off people's attempts to fight back.

  • That's all fair. I'm not at all satisfied with their performance, just not surprised. Legislators don't know how to respond to the Gish Gallop, especially when it's taken the top offices.

  • I don't see a voting way out of this, sadly.

So if it's a revolution, and we win, we then get to institute different rules that don't lead to the inevitable two party domination.

  • No. The people are going to have to do it. Or the military, but that rarely ends well for anyone.

  • Democrats aren't revolutionaries. They're legislators. Most of them didn't sign up for this but for normal work.

It does mean we have the wrong people in office when we need fighters, but I don't see how you can throw all the blame on them.

They're the ones who are afraid of going to Gitmo, assuming they aren't otherwise disappeared.

  • Oh, they'll turn eventually. And then we will have VP Pence and Project 2025 still happening. It's part of the plan. The president building his own insurgent army is not.

  • There's a book called The Botany of Desire, by Michael Pollan, which is about this. Looking from the plants eye view of things, they have manipulated us into growing them in a huge variety of environments. The book focuses on tulips, cannabis, apples, and potatoes, iirc. Fascinating book.

Two quick examples from the book:

Pot gets us high, now we grow it in closets, warehouses, yards, basements, attics, etc.

Apples don't reproduce true from seed, so Johnny Appleseed brought readily available cider to the Americas. (You need a cutting of an apple tree to grow that type of apple.)

  • Even if they did, we would still be saddled with Project 2025.

The true enemy is the Federalist Society. Trump is a distraction. And as Schumer must know this, I can't trust him one lick.

  • That's why it's fun, at least to me.

You snap out of the conversation and go over the permutations. It's funnier that way.

  • Thank you.

Like "choose to be happy" isn't a magical mantra but something you need to work on in order to change the way you reflexively think.

"Be yourself" is essential advice for people trying to have a mask on 24/7.

And I've mostly given up replying to such threads because they're usually an excuse to wallow and complain that they've tried everything.

I don't have a magic potion that makes things better overnight, but I do have techniques that I have found valuable in improving my own mental health, but by bit, over several years.
